BJP President Nitin Nabin Slams Rahul Gandhi Over Election Commission Protests

The CSR Journal Magazine

BJP national president Nitin Nabin has launched a strong criticism against Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition, regarding the ongoing protests led by the Opposition against the Election Commission and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Nabin made these statements on October 7, during the closing ceremony of the Seva Sankalp Yatra held in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The event was also attended by prominent BJP leaders, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, and BJP state president Pankaj Chaudhary.

Nabin accused Gandhi of collaborating with anti-social elements to foster anarchy in the country. He stated, “The Leader of the Opposition is working with anti-social elements in an atmosphere of anarchy. I would like to tell him clearly that the people of India will never let his motive and intent become a reality.” His comments come in the context of ongoing tensions surrounding the SIR process, which has led to accusations and concerns from various political factions.

The BJP chief specifically mentioned that Gandhi’s focus should not be on those whom he claims are being deprived of their rights, but rather on the alleged ‘infiltrators’ whose names could be removed from electoral rolls as part of the SIR. He emphasised that these individuals should not be granted rights, questioning Gandhi’s motives by asking, “Who do you care about? Who are you fighting for?”

Accusations of Anarchy and Infiltration

Nabin continued to challenge the Opposition’s stance on democracy, particularly in light of their objections to the removal of alleged infiltrators from electoral rolls through the SIR. He remarked, “If names of such infiltrators are struck off through SIR and still you are questioning the democracy of the country over it, the biggest question being raised is about you.” This statement reflects the ongoing political strife regarding the electoral revision process and its perceived implications on voters’ rights.

In his remarks, Nabin also referred to what he described as an “anarchist mindset” among the Opposition, asserting that the people of India would respond to such ideologies. He expressed confidence that the electorate would not support actions perceived as undermining democratic principles, particularly concerning the integrity of electoral processes. His comments are indicative of the BJP’s strategy to frame the Opposition’s protests as attempts to destabilise the political landscape.

Ongoing Protests by the Opposition

The political confrontation surrounding the SIR continues to escalate, with leaders from the INDIA bloc actively protesting against the Election Commission. These protests have raised concerns that the revision of electoral rolls could lead to the exclusion of eligible voters. Despite these allegations, the Election Commission has asserted that the SIR is designed to maintain accurate and up-to-date electoral records.

In a separate statement, Rahul Gandhi reiterated the Opposition’s commitment to protesting against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He stated that the Congress Party and its allies would persist in their demonstrations until Kumar resigns. Gandhi underscored the importance of protecting constitutional integrity and claimed, “We are not going to stop protesting till Gyanesh Kumar resigns. This is a fight to protect the most sacred thing in this country.” His comments highlight the Opposition’s determination to challenge government actions they view as detrimental to democracy.

The tension between the ruling BJP and the Opposition reflects deeper ideological divisions over the electoral process and the role of institutions like the Election Commission. As the situation develops, both sides appear committed to their respective narratives regarding the future of democracy in India, making it essential to closely monitor the unfolding events.
