Bengaluru Engineer Drugged, Robbed of ₹6.8 Lakh by Woman He Met on Dating App

The CSR Journal Magazine

A 26-year-old software engineer from Bengaluru fell victim to a shocking robbery after meeting a woman he had connected with on a dating app. The woman, identified as Kavipriya, allegedly drugged him before fleeing with gold jewellery and cash worth ₹6.89 lakh.

According to police reports, the incident occurred on the night of November 1 in Indiranagar but came to light only a week later when the victim filed a complaint with the Indiranagar police.

Online Match Turns Risky

The two had met on the Happn dating app about two months ago and had been chatting regularly. After several conversations, they decided to meet in person at a restaurant in Indiranagar. The pair spent the evening dining and drinking together before leaving around midnight.

Kavipriya reportedly told the engineer that she was unable to return to her Paying Guest (PG) accommodation and had already booked a room at Octave Crystal Heights Lodge, where they went together.

Drink, Drowsiness, and Disappearance

At the lodge, the duo ordered food via Zepto around 12:30 a.m. The victim stated in his FIR that after he ate, the woman handed him a glass of water, which, after consuming, made him lose consciousness.

When he awoke the next morning, Kavipriya was gone, along with his gold chain worth ₹3.22 lakh, a 30-gram bracelet worth ₹3.45 lakh, ₹10,000 in cash, and a headset valued at ₹12,000.

Police Investigation Underway

The engineer initially hesitated to file a complaint, fearing the woman might misuse his private photos. However, he later reported the matter, prompting police to register a case of theft and cheating under Sections 303(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Investigators suspect the victim was sedated through either food or water. Police are now tracing the accused woman, who remains absconding with her phone switched off.
