Bank Holidays This Week: List of Bank Closures for Dussehra, Durga Puja and More

The CSR Journal Magazine

India has officially entered the festive season, marked by a series of celebrations. As various festivals approach, it is essential for bank customers to be aware of the bank holiday schedule for October. This information is crucial for those planning to visit bank branches for transactions, as some banks may close for festivities.

The holidays observed by banks in October will differ across states and cities, reflecting local customs and celebrations. Customers intending to make significant cash deposits, process cheques, or undertake other banking activities that require in-person visits should verify the holiday schedule specific to their area. This will enable them to plan their banking activities more effectively.

Bank Closures on October 19

On Monday, October 19, banks will remain closed in several states, including Tripura, Mizoram, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Nagaland, West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand. The closures are in observance of Dussehra (Mahashtami), Maha Navami, Ayutha Pooja, Durga Puja, Vijaya Dashami, and Durga Ashtami.

Customers in these regions should take note of the bank closures to avoid any inconvenience. It is advisable to complete any urgent banking tasks before this date to ensure smooth financial transactions during the festive period.

Those who reside in states where banks will remain open should still check with their local branches, as operational hours may vary even on holidays. This can help avoid unnecessary travel to the bank.

Bank Closures on October 20 and 21

On Tuesday, October 20, banks will be closed in Tripura, Gujarat, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Assam, Telangana, Arunachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Nagaland, West Bengal, Delhi, Goa, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, Himachal Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh. This closure is due to Dasara/Dussehra (Vijaya Dashami), Maha Navami, Ayudhapooja, and Durga Puja.

Only in Sikkim and Manipur will banks remain operational on this day. Customers in the states observing holidays should plan their banking needs accordingly, as many services will not be available.

On Wednesday, October 21, banks will again be closed in Tripura, Karnataka, Sikkim, Assam, Kerala, West Bengal, and Meghalaya for Vijaya Dasami, Durga Puja (Dasain), and Maha Dashami. It is important for customers to keep these closures in mind when scheduling any banking activities during this week.

Additional Bank Holidays and Services

On Thursday and Friday, October 22 and 23, banks will be closed in Sikkim for Durga Puja (Dasain). Furthermore, all banks across India will observe a holiday on October 24, which is the fourth Saturday of the month. According to the Reserve Bank of India’s holiday schedule, all scheduled and non-scheduled banks are closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month.

Despite the bank closures, banking services will not be entirely halted. Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), Unified Payments Interface (UPI), internet banking, and mobile banking applications will continue to function for routine transactions, including fund transfers, bill payments, and account management. However, services that necessitate a visit to a physical branch will be unavailable until the branches reopen.

Customers are encouraged to check the holiday calendar to avoid unnecessary trips to the bank and ensure that their banking plans remain on track during this busy festive season. Being informed about bank holidays can help in managing financial tasks effectively amidst the celebrations.
