On Friday, Kolkata’s Alipore Court ordered that influencer Shamik Adhikary aka YourNonsane should be kept in police custody until February 16 on charges of physical assault and sexual harassment. Kolkata-based social media influencer Shamik Adhikary was arrested by Police on Friday. The influencer who goes by the stage name ‘YourNonsane’ had been on the run following allegations of assaulting a woman who was allegedly his friend. Adhikary was apprehended in the Dum Dum area and was produced in court.
The complainant alleges that she was held against her will inside a residence in Behala for approximately 12 hours, spanning from the night of February 2 to the evening of February 3. She claims that during this period, Adhikary physically assaulted her, insulted her modesty, and issued threats stemming from a private disagreement. The victim was allegedly raped multiple times after being thrashed ruthlessly.
The victim also agreed to give a confidential statement regarding the assault in court. The 22-year-old victim broke down in tears while describing her horrific experience in the hands of the influencer to the media. What she said is spine chilling!
What exactly did the victim allege about Shamik Adhikary?
The victim said, “Shamik was shifting to a new flat, so he called me over like a friend. I went there around 5:30 PM. I helped him and his parents with packing and organising things. Since I had to go to college the following day, I started booking a cab around 9 pm. That’s when Shamik snatched my phone and told me not to leave. Then he started checking chats on my phone. When he my texts with another influencer, his ego was hurt. After that, he locked the door and started beating me. His parents were still present there. No matter what I said in response, he kept hitting me.”
She further said, “One of my eyes swelled up from the beating. I still have bruises under my eye. In the meantime, his parents intervened after hearing my screams. Then he threatened to commit suicide. His parents got scared. Despite seeing my condition, his parents left me alone. While he was still abusing me, I gestured to his mother, saying, ‘Aunty, please call someone.’ Because I didn’t have my phone with me. But his mother left without listening to me. Because they themselves were scared seeing Shamik’s behavior.”
Victim breaks down recalling horror
The young woman broke down in tears while speaking. She said, Shamik kept beating me and asking, ‘Did it hurt you a lot?’ He held my face and saw that my eye was swollen and bruised. When I begged him to let me go, he slapped me hard again. That’s when I screamed. “I can’t see properly without my glasses anyway. Due to the beating, my eyelids were half shut. He behaved in such a brutal manner all night… Then his mother came and helped me change my clothes. At that time, I repeatedly begged Shamik and his parents to let me go home. But they didn’t let me go outside because of my appearance. After some time, my body gave up and I lost consciousness. I don’t remember anything after that.”
Was this a routine behaviour of the infleuncer? In response, the victim said, “No, this was the first time Shamik behaved like that with me. However, after this incident came to light, some of his ex-girlfriends and friends contacted me and some even shared video evidence. They too were victims of sexual harassment by Shamik. What all has he done? I have all the evidence. Many people I don’t even know have contacted me. I thought I was the first. But now I have pictures of women who were victims of his abuse.”
The victim added, “During the beating, Shamik was threatening me, ‘Try to do something. Try to get out of here and I will kill you. Your death is in my hands.’ When his father tried to stop him, Shamik chased him with a piece of plywood…” The victim broke down in tears while saying this.
Shamik Adhikary and victim were friends: Influencer’s lawyer
Influencer Shamik Adhikary was produced in Alipore court on Friday. His lawyer claimed that Shamik and the young woman were friends. Even if there was any physical relationship, it was with mutual consent.
Victim was confined and tortured for days, raped multiple times: Public prosecutor
The public prosecutor stated that the accused influencer had kept the young woman confined in his house and tortured her for days. Not only that, multiple injury marks were found all over the young woman’s body. There were also bruises under her eyes. The victim was allegedly raped multiple times. The public prosecutor said that when she tried to resist, she was brutally beaten. After hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail application of the accused Shamik Adhikary and ordered him to be remanded in police custody for 10 days.
