BAN vs PAK: Salman Ali Agha Reprimanded After Outburst Over Run-Out Call

The CSR Journal Magazine

Salman Ali Agha has been reprimanded by match referee Neeyamur Rashid for his behavior after a contentious run-out during the second ODI between Bangladesh and Pakistan. Following his dismissal, Agha was observed angrily discarding his gloves and helmet, prompting Rashid to charge him with the abuse of cricket equipment.

This incident was classified as a Level 1 violation under Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which addresses the misuse or destruction of equipment during an international match. Rashid stated that they maintained a neutral stance in their judgment, despite Agha’s clean record regarding similar offences prior to this incident.

Details of the Incident

The controversial run-out took place during the 39th over of the match, with Pakistan developing a promising partnership between Agha and Mohammad Rizwan, after Bangladesh opted to bat first. On the fourth delivery of the over, Rizwan pushed the ball towards the right of the bowler. Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz attempted to stop the ball with his boot, which inadvertently led to a collision with Agha, who was positioned at the non-striker’s end. As the ball settled near them and Agha stepped out of his crease momentarily, he appeared to bend down to retrieve the ball.

However, in a quick reaction, Miraz picked up the ball and executed an underarm throw at the stumps while Agha was still outside his ground. An immediate appeal followed, resulting in on-field umpire Tanvir Ahmed referring the decision to the TV umpire. After reviewing the footage, the TV umpire confirmed Agha’s run-out, as the ball was still considered in play and Agha had not grounded his bat behind the crease.

Agha’s Response to the Decision

Agha, who had scored 64 runs from 62 balls, expressed his dissatisfaction with the run-out decision and had a verbal exchange with Miraz. This altercation quickly intensified when Litton Das joined the conversation, though Rizwan intervened to calm tensions. In the aftermath of the game, Agha reflected on the incident, indicating that he would have handled the situation differently.

Match Referee’s Statement on the Judgement

Neeyamur Rashid elaborated on the nature of the reprimand, noting that Agha had received a demerit point for his actions, which reflected the specific incident of abusing cricket equipment while departing the field. He acknowledged Agha’s lack of prior history concerning such behavior and reaffirmed the necessity for neutrality in their judgment process. Rashid added that no formal charges would be pursued regarding the exchange Agha had with the Bangladesh players, attributing it to miscommunication and confirming that a report on the matter had been submitted to the ICC for further consideration.

Rashid emphasized the careful deliberation that occurred before reaching the final decision, incorporating discussions with the ICC while adhering to the principles of neutrality in judging player conduct.
