The CSR Journal Magazine

The Assam government, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party, is set to transfer Rs 3600 crore to the bank accounts of 40 lakh women beneficiaries under its flagship scheme “Orunodoi” on March 10.

Each eligible participant will receive a total of Rs 9000, disbursed over four months, through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. This initiative marks one of the largest single-day DBT operations in the state’s history.

Chief Minister’s Statement

Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the financial transfer, emphasizing the government’s commitment to empowering women in the region. Under the “Orunodoi” scheme, beneficiaries have previously received Rs 1250 monthly, aimed at alleviating economic hardships faced by women.

Jan Ashirwad Yatra Participation

On March 8, which was the seventh day of the Jan Ashirwad Yatra organized by the Bharatiya Janata Party, there was significant public turnout, demonstrating strong community engagement across various demographics. The yatra began in the Margherita Constituency and concluded in the Makum Constituency, passing through the historical oil town of Digboi.

Response from the Public and Party Leaders

Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed that the enthusiastic participation of the public during the yatra invigorated him, reinforcing his resolve to pursue the development agenda for Assam. Accompanying him was Dilip Saikia, President of the Assam Pradesh BJP and a Member of Parliament, who played a crucial role in providing organizational support throughout the event.

The BJP spokesperson, Pranjal Kalita, noted that the widespread participation from various sections of society during the yatra was indicative of the party’s strengthening position ahead of the upcoming elections.

Outreach Achieved During Yatra

During the course of the yatra, Chief Minister Sarma covered over 800 kilometres, directly interacting with residents across more than 25 constituencies. Many constituents affectionately referred to him as “mama,” offering their support and blessings for his ongoing efforts toward the state’s development.

This interaction highlights the grassroots approach of the current administration in connecting with the populace ahead of the assembly polls.
