The Assam government has announced a substantial investment plan of Rs 50,000 crore as part of its initiative to achieve ‘Viksit Assam 2047′, according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. This announcement was made during a media briefing following the District Commissioners’ Conference held in Jorhat, which concluded on September 14.

The Chief Minister elaborated that the proposed funds would be allocated to a variety of infrastructure projects. These include the construction of Anganwadi centres, new sports stadiums, and improvements in educational institutions ranging from schools to universities.

During the conference, detailed discussions were conducted with District Commissioners to determine the specific projects slated for each district. This collaborative approach aims to ensure effective implementation and resource allocation.

Focus on Educational Improvement and Public Services

In addition to infrastructure development, the meeting also prioritised initiatives to diminish the dropout rates among secondary school students. The Chief Minister highlighted the need for enhanced execution of various government schemes and public services aimed at benefiting the population.

Among the issues reviewed was the implementation of the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, a national campaign aimed at eliminating tuberculosis. Plans for establishing new medical colleges across different locations and upgrading 4,000 health sub-centres into hospitals were also discussed, in accordance with announcements made in the state budget.

The conference highlighted the creation of land banks in each district as a means to promote industrial development. While other states like Gujarat and Maharashtra have set aside substantial tracts of land for this purpose, with reserves of up to seven lakh bighas, Assam currently has less than 10,000 bighas allocated for future industrial use.

Community Engagement and Upcoming Programmes

Chief Minister Sarma also announced plans for the upcoming ‘Seva Sankalpa Abhiyan’, taking place from September 17 to October 17. The campaign will revolve around the themes ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ and ‘Viksit Assam 2047’.

This month-long initiative aims to engage the community through drawing, quiz, and speech competitions, as well as recognising the contributions of Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, and mid-day meal cooks. Additionally, Seva Setu camps will be established at the block level to facilitate direct interaction with the public for the collection of applications and grievances.

Attendees of the conference included all Assam ministers, Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, senior officials from various departments and autonomous councils, District Commissioners, Co-District Commissioners, and other district administration staff. The collaborative efforts aim to foster development and respond effectively to the needs of the citizens.
