‘Appi Amchi Collector’ Fame Marathi Actor Mahesh Pawar Dies in Road Accident

Mahesh Pawar, a 25-year-old actor known for his role in the television series Appi Amchi Collector, died following a fatal road incident when an SUV he was in fell over 1,000 feet into a gorge in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. The accident claimed the lives of seven others who were travelling with him.

The mishap occurred in the Ambenali Ghat area along the Poladpur-Mahabaleshwar road, situated approximately 180 km from Mumbai. Authorities reported that all eight individuals were in the same vehicle when it lost control and plunged into the gorge.

Local police confirmed that the group’s last known location was identified through a mobile tower near Poladpur. On the morning of May 27, a search operation in the Ambenali Ghat section led to the discovery of the vehicle deep within the gorge. Preliminary findings indicate that the driver likely lost control, resulting in the tragic fall.

Victims of the Incident

All eight victims of the accident were reportedly aged between 19 and 35 years. They had set off from Harne in Dapoli around 2 am on Sunday, but when the group did not reach Satara as planned, their families grew concerned and contacted the police.

The deceased were identified as Ritesh Lokhande, 22, Suhas Lokhande, 20, Utkarsh Shingte, 21, Nikhil Shingte, 25, Mahesh Pawar, 25, Aditya Salunkhe, 21, Rajesh Katkar, 35, all residents of Satara, and Ansh Chavan, 19, from Ratnagiri.

Law enforcement authorities are conducting further investigations to understand the circumstances surrounding this tragic accident and to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Reactions and Rescue Operations

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his condolences regarding the tragic loss of life, stating that rescue operations were initiated on a “war footing.” In his official statement, he mentioned that the victims were on an outing when their vehicle went over the edge of the gorge.

In response to the incident, the district administration implemented immediate rescue and relief operations. Five teams, each consisting of seven members, were organised to assist in retrieving the bodies from the precarious location.

Additionally, the Chief Minister stated that the National Disaster Response Force and other voluntary rescue teams were participating in the ongoing rescue efforts, underscoring the urgency of the situation and the need to recover the victims swiftly.
