Anupam Kher Announces 551st Film Flicker, Calls It A ‘New Beginning’ In His Career

The CSR Journal Magazine

Actor Anupam Kher has announced his next film, Flicker, marking the 551st project of his prolific career. Sharing the first poster on social media, the veteran actor described the film as both a milestone and a fresh beginning, signalling a new creative phase in his journey.

The monochrome poster captures Kher in a flowing traditional outfit, frozen mid-motion in what appears to be a whirling dance pose. The striking visual hints at a layered and possibly experimental narrative, though the actor has chosen to keep the storyline under wraps for now.

A Leap Of Faith And Reinvention

Alongside the poster reveal, Kher reflected on his decision to embrace new challenges and step outside his comfort zone. Taking to Instagram, he spoke about the importance of reinvention and the risks that come with it.

“If you don’t challenge yourself, you slowly start repeating yourself,” he wrote, adding that he consciously chose “the harder road” to evolve both professionally and personally.

Describing Flicker as a search for something “real”, Kher called the project “extraordinary in its spirit”. He revealed that the preparation process has been quiet, intense and deeply focused, suggesting a departure from his previous work.

“So I chose the harder road. To reinvent not just the actor in me but the person I am becoming. To step into uncertainty. To make it difficult. To search for something real. FLICKER is that search,” he wrote.

Calling it “Day 1” of a new chapter, Kher framed the film as a leap of faith, while seeking blessings and support from fans and well-wishers. He also assured audiences that more details about the project will be revealed in the coming days.

Keeping The Story Under Wraps

While the actor has offered glimpses into the philosophy behind Flicker, he has remained tight-lipped about its plot, cast and production details. This deliberate secrecy has only added to the intrigue surrounding the film.

The visual language of the poster, combined with Kher’s emphasis on reinvention, suggests that Flicker could explore unconventional themes or storytelling formats. The use of a monochrome aesthetic further reinforces the possibility of a deeply introspective narrative.

Kher’s statement that the film will leave a lasting impression on audiences has heightened anticipation, especially given his long-standing reputation for delivering nuanced and memorable performances across genres.

Other Projects And Return Of A Cult Favourite

Apart from Flicker, Kher is also set to appear in Khosla Ka Ghosla 2, the sequel to the beloved 2006 film Khosla Ka Ghosla. The sequel is slated for a theatrical release on August 28 this year, coinciding with the festival of Raksha Bandhan.

The upcoming film reunites several familiar faces from the original, including Ranvir Shorey, Parvin Dabas and Kiran Juneja, while Ravi Kishan joins the ensemble cast.

The first instalment, released in 2006, followed a middle-class family’s struggle to reclaim their property from a corrupt land dealer and went on to achieve cult status for its sharp storytelling and relatable humour.

With Flicker and Khosla Ka Ghosla 2 on the horizon, Kher appears poised to balance nostalgia with reinvention, continuing to expand his already extensive body of work while embracing new creative risks.
