Recently, Anjali Arora, known for her viral dance performances on social media, responded to the backlash regarding her casting as Sita in the upcoming film Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha. After the release of the film’s teaser, the actor faced significant trolling and criticism, primarily from those who questioned her suitability for the role given her background. Arora commented on the public perception, noting that being a public figure means facing scrutiny over one’s professional endeavours.

Critics pointed out the apparent disconnect between her social media persona, marked by dance videos, and the reverence associated with portraying a character like Sita. During the trailer launch event, held on September 17, 2026, Arora addressed the naysayers directly. She stated that she does not allow the negativity to affect her. “People are trolling me that I used to dance, so how can I play the role of Mata Sita? Everyone dances; which actor doesn’t dance? I love to dance; it is my hobby. I am not ashamed of it,” she explained, emphasising her passion for dance while asserting her commitment to the role.

Arora acknowledged the role of public opinion in shaping perceptions of actors and their work. She expressed her understanding that as a public figure, individuals are subject to judgement from audiences, both positive and negative. “No, I didn’t feel sad about it because we are public figures, and we have given the public the right to judge us,” she added, reinforcing that each viewer is entitled to their opinion regarding her portrayal.

She also conveyed her dedication to giving her utmost to every character she plays, independent of how audiences may perceive her outside of her acting career. “We are actors; whatever character is offered to us, we will portray it by giving our 100 percent,” Arora remarked. Her focus remains on delivering a strong performance that reflects the richness of the character’s narrative.

Expressing her desire for audiences to see beyond her social media presence, Arora stated, “I have played the role of Sita Maa, and now, after watching the trailer, did you feel that she is the same Anjali whom we see on social media?” Her intention is that viewers experience the film without the influence of her off-screen image.

The trailer for Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha, unveiled recently, features pivotal moments from the Ramayana, highlighting the emotional journey of Ram and Sita.
