Veteran actor Anil Kapoor has revealed that his real-life relationship with his wife, Sunita Kapoor, played a crucial role in shaping his performance in the upcoming film Subedaar. As the film gears up for its premiere on Amazon Prime Video on March 5, Kapoor shared insights into the emotional preparation behind his character, a man torn between duty, love, and patriotism.

Drawing From Marriage, Not Fatherhood

Speaking about his approach to the role, Kapoor clarified that he did not draw inspiration from his relationship with his children, Sonam Kapoor, Rhea Kapoor, and Harshvardhan Kapoor. Instead, he reflected deeply on his bond with Sunita.

“In Subedaar, I dug into my relationship with my wife. I don’t have that kind of dynamic with my daughters; we are more like friends,” Kapoor explained. He emphasized that the love he feels for his wife, his work, and his country coexist, and the film attempts to capture that delicate balance.

Kapoor and Sunita have been married since May 19, 1984, and the actor has often spoken about her steadfast support throughout his decades-long career in Hindi cinema.

Exploring the Conflict Between Duty and Love

Directed by Suresh Triveni, Subedaar centers on a character navigating the emotional strain of professional duty and personal commitment. Kapoor described the story as one that reflects a universal dilemma, the constant tug-of-war between career obligations and being present for loved ones.

He noted that in several scenes, his character chooses to fulfill his duty first, promising himself that he will return to his family afterward. According to Kapoor, this “perpetual conflict” mirrors real life, particularly for individuals deeply committed to their professions.

The actor admitted that being passionate about one’s career can create internal struggles, especially when trying to balance roles as a spouse and parent. He credited Sunita for giving him the space and understanding necessary to pursue his ambitions wholeheartedly.

Film Details and Ensemble Cast

Subedaar features Kapoor in the titular role of a man devoted to both his profession and his nation. The film will be available in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu upon release. The cast includes Radhika Madan, Saurabh Shukla, Aditya Rawal, Faisal Malik, and Mona Singh in pivotal roles.
