Allegations of Misconduct Lead to Suspension of ASI in Akola

The CSR Journal Magazine

An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in Akola, Maharashtra, has been suspended following allegations of misconduct involving a woman in police custody. The officer, identified as Rajesh Jadhav, reportedly solicited sexual favours from the detained woman’s daughter in exchange for monetary compensation. The incident occurred while the woman was being held as part of an investigation into a fraud case involving ₹80 lakh.

Details of the Allegations

During her detention, Rajesh Jadhav allegedly approached the woman with an inappropriate proposition, stating, “You are very beautiful; your daughter must be beautiful too. Send her to me and I will give you ₹10,000.” This interaction prompted the woman to file a complaint with a female police officer present at the police station. The complaint led to an immediate response from authorities.

Immediate Action by Authorities

Upon receiving the complaint, Akola Superintendent of Police Archit Chandak swiftly initiated action against Jadhav, resulting in his suspension from duty. At present, Jadhav is evading arrest, and three police teams have been formed to locate and apprehend him. Senior Police Inspector Anil Jumle, who is overseeing the investigation, confirmed that a formal complaint has been lodged and that efforts to detain the involved officer are ongoing.

Previous Complaints Against the Accused Officer

Concerns regarding Rajesh Jadhav’s conduct are not new. Reports indicate that he faced complaints nearly a decade ago related to family disputes and alleged inappropriate behaviour towards women, including accusations involving a female police officer. Dr. Asha Mirge, a former member of the Maharashtra State Women’s Commission, highlighted the seriousness of such allegations, emphasizing the necessity for timely action to prevent further misconduct.

Commitment to Accountability and Investigation

The authorities involved have reiterated their commitment to ensuring strict disciplinary measures and accountability within the police force as the investigation unfolds. They have emphasized the importance of maintaining public trust by addressing such grave allegations with seriousness and urgency. As efforts to locate Rajesh Jadhav continue, the case remains a focal point for discussions surrounding police conduct and accountability in Maharashtra.
