The Ahmedabad Police, in coordination with the Crime Branch, executed a significant operation targeting suspected illegal Bangladeshi nationals on June 3. This extensive crackdown involved various locations within the city, including Chandola, Gulabnagar, and Khodiyarnagar. Authorities have indicated that the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to regulate and address illegal residency issues within the state.

Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) Sharad Singhal confirmed the operation, stating that a total of 290 individuals were taken into custody during this late-night action. Of these, 131 suspects were arrested from different areas while 160 others are currently undergoing detailed questioning by Crime Branch officials. This operation marks a significant escalation in the state’s enforcement actions against undocumented immigration.

The crackdown is part of a broader state policy aimed at addressing illegal residency, with officials noting that checks and searches have been conducted regularly across diverse areas. The approach reflects a sustained focus on curtailing unlawful activities related to immigration.

Government’s Stance on Illegal Immigrants

In light of this operation, Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi elaborated on the state government’s stringent measures concerning illegal Bangladeshi nationals. He remarked that the home department has implemented a resolute policy to combat unlawful immigration and that efforts are ongoing across multiple cities, including Surat, Rajkot, and Vadodara.

Deputy CM Sanghavi highlighted the rigorous inspections undertaken by various police units, including the Crime Branch and Special Operations Group (SOG). These joint operations reflect a comprehensive strategy to identify and apprehend individuals residing unlawfully. The Deputy Chief Minister noted that this latest operation has resulted in a considerable number of detentions, which underscores the scale of the initiative.

Sanghavi indicated that the push against illegal residents is a cornerstone of the state’s security framework, with plans for continued endeavours in the future to tackle issues related to foreign nationals. The government aims to maintain vigilance and implement further investigations to uphold law and order.

Future Measures Against Illegal Infiltration

Authorities have pledged that the campaign against illegal infiltration will persist beyond this operation. The concerted actions undertaken by the authorities signal a proactive stance aimed at deterring undocumented immigration. Officials have emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts among various law enforcement agencies to ensure effective implementation of these initiatives.

During the operation, police resources were diversified to enhance the reach and effectiveness of the searches conducted. This reiterates the commitment of the Gujarat state government to regularly assess and respond to immigration-related challenges as part of its broader public safety strategy.

The government’s response to the situation reflects ongoing tensions surrounding immigration issues in the region. The commitment to continuous law enforcement actions against unlawful residents illustrates the seriousness with which state officials are approaching the problem. Authorities have encouraged public cooperation in identifying and reporting instances of suspected illegal residency.
