Adani Group Fuels India’s Future Scientists Through RSI-India 2026

The CSR Journal Magazine

India’s scientific future depends on identifying and nurturing talent early. With that vision, the Adani Group, in collaboration with the US-based Centre for Excellence in Education (CEE), successfully concluded the second edition of the Research Science Initiative (RSI)-India 2026 at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.

Modelled on the globally acclaimed Research Science Initiative at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the six-week, fully funded programme brought together 32 of India’s brightest secondary school students for advanced STEM coursework and hands-on research under the mentorship of IISc faculty.

A Launchpad for Future Researchers

The programme gave students a rare opportunity to move beyond textbooks and experience real scientific research in one of India’s premier institutions.

Speaking at the valedictory ceremony, participant Tanishq described the programme as “a terrific experience,” highlighting the opportunity to work with IISc professors while interacting with like-minded students who shared a passion for science and learning.

Another participant, Pradyun, called RSI-India one of the most rigorous research programmes he had ever attended. Along with laboratory work, students also participated in science gallery visits and extracurricular activities, making the programme both academically demanding and personally enriching.

He expressed hope that initiatives like RSI-India continue for years, encouraging more students to pursue careers in pure sciences and contribute to future discoveries and innovation.

Encouraging Careers in Pure Science

Professor Deepak Saini, Faculty Convener of RSI-India, said the programme addresses a critical gap in India’s education ecosystem.

He noted that most students at the high school level tend to pursue engineering or medicine, while India also requires a much larger pool of researchers capable of driving scientific discoveries and technological innovation.

According to Professor Saini, exposing students to laboratory research at an early stage helps them understand what scientific inquiry truly involves and inspires them to consider careers in STEM.

“The best way to make them pick up science is to give them a flavour of science,” he said, adding that the programme aims to build the next generation of researchers for India.

Adani Group’s Role in Building Scientific Talent

Professor Saini also acknowledged the Adani Group’s contribution, saying the company’s support has been integral to the programme’s success.

“The Adani Group is integral to this programme because they’ve supported this programme. Clearly, their vision is helping us achieve the goal that we have started with,” he said.

Student Shiv Mandlik echoed that sentiment, thanking the Adani Group for making the programme accessible to talented students across the country without any financial burden.

He noted that opportunities of this scale are rarely available free of cost and praised the company for enabling high school students from diverse backgrounds to participate in world-class scientific research.

Investing in India’s Innovation Ecosystem

Beyond academic excellence, RSI-India reflects the growing importance of partnerships between educational institutions, global organisations and industry in strengthening India’s research ecosystem.

By supporting programmes like RSI-India, the Adani Group is helping create opportunities for young minds to explore scientific research, think critically and develop innovative solutions to real-world challenges.

As India aspires to become a global leader in science and technology, initiatives that encourage curiosity, research and innovation at an early age could play a significant role in shaping the country’s next generation of scientists and innovators.
