Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Visits India for AI Impact Summit, Boosts Strategic Ties

The CSR Journal Magazine

Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, undertook an official visit to India from February 18 to 19 to participate in the AI Impact Summit held in the national capital. This visit underscores the deepening strategic partnership between India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). During the summit, the Crown Prince met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where both leaders assessed the progress of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and the UAE, focusing on their robust political, cultural, commercial, energy, and people-to-people connections.

Review of Bilateral Partnerships

The discussions highlighted recent high-level engagements, including notable visits from UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and various members of the royal families of both Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The leaders acknowledged the ongoing momentum in bilateral relations. Significant strides have been made in various sectors such as defence, security, trade, investment, education, and cultural cooperation, reflecting a comprehensive approach to their partnership.

Trade and Economic Cooperation

As the two nations mark four years since signing the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) on February 18, 2022, they noted the substantial growth in bilateral trade and investment resulting from this agreement. Both leaders praised the strong investment flows between the countries and encouraged the UAE sovereign wealth funds to increase their investments in India. They also recognized the potential role of L’Imad, the UAE’s latest sovereign fund, in furthering economic collaboration.

Collaboration in Emerging Sectors

Talks during the visit also addressed collaborations in strategic and emerging sectors, including space, nuclear energy, and technology, with a specific emphasis on artificial intelligence as a central focus of their partnership. A key outcome was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention aimed at bolstering cooperation in health and medicine. This MoU seeks to enhance professional exchanges, foster institutional collaboration, and spur advancements in digital health, pharmaceuticals, and modern health technologies.

AI Initiatives and Business Expansion

In a significant advancement for AI cooperation, a term sheet was formalized among the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), UAE-based technology company G42, and the Mohamed Bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence. This agreement will facilitate the deployment of a supercomputer cluster in India, a proposal first raised during the UAE President’s visit in January. The supercomputer will support the AI India Mission, serving both public and private sectors for research and development activities.

Further Expansion of UAE’s Business Interests

Additionally, the Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company is set to establish operations in GIFT City, Gujarat, which will enhance the UAE’s presence in India’s financial services landscape. Sheikh Khaled extended his congratulations to Prime Minister Modi for the successful execution of the AI Impact Summit. Prime Minister Modi reciprocated by acknowledging Switzerland’s initiative to host the next AI Summit, to be followed by the UAE’s hosting rights.

Conclusion of High-Level Exchanges

The visit reinforced the tradition of frequent high-level exchanges between India and the UAE, emphasizing their mutual commitment to advancing artificial intelligence and cutting-edge technologies as foundational elements of their bilateral relationship.
