Towhid Hridoy showcased an extraordinary performance by scoring an unbeaten 350 runs for Bangladesh A against South Africa A during the second unofficial Test held in Potchefstroom. The captain’s remarkable innings spanned 481 balls and included 27 fours and ten sixes, contributing significantly to his team’s declared total of 676 for eight. Hridoy’s performance came after a shaky start for Bangladesh A, who were reeling at 86 for three in response to South Africa A’s first-innings score of 512.

After entering the match at No. 4, Hridoy played a pivotal role in leading his side’s recovery, forming a critical partnership of 151 runs with Jaker Ali, who fell just short of a century, scoring 94. Following that, he collaborated with Mohammad Saifuddin, contributing to a substantial 185-run partnership before Saifuddin was dismissed for 87. Hridoy’s marathon batting effort lasted over 191 overs, resulting in a remarkable record-breaking innings.

Despite South Africa A scoring 18 runs without loss in 12 overs before the conclusion of the match, the draw did not diminish Hridoy’s accomplishment, which marked a significant milestone in his career and for Bangladesh cricket as a whole.

Hridoy’s innings not only etched his name in history but also led to multiple record-setting achievements. His score of 350 not out is now the highest individual score in first-class cricket by a Bangladeshi batter, surpassing Tamim Iqbal’s record of 334 not out set in 2019. Hridoy has become the third Bangladeshi player to score a first-class triple-century, joining the ranks of Tamim Iqbal and Raqibul Hasan.

Additionally, he has become the first Bangladeshi batter to achieve a first-class triple-century outside of Bangladesh, as well as the first player from Bangladesh A to record a triple-century, breaking the previous benchmark of 214 set by Shahriar Hossain in 2003. Remarkably, Hridoy’s score stands as the highest ever for an overseas batter in first-class cricket in South Africa and the second-highest overall, trailing only Stephen Cook’s score of 390.

Furthermore, he is now the second overseas batter to have achieved a first-class triple-century in South Africa, with the first being England’s Dennis Compton, who scored 300 against North Eastern Transvaal in 1948.

Towhid Hridoy, born on December 4, 2000, in Bogra, has been recognised as one of Bangladesh’s most promising middle-order batters. A right-handed batsman with off-spin bowling capabilities, Hridoy rose through the ranks of the youth cricket system, being a part of the historic Under-19 World Cup-winning squad in 2020.

He made his first-class debut in 2017 while playing for Rajshahi Division, gradually establishing his reputation in domestic competitions and franchise leagues. His significant performances led to international recognition, and he made his T20I debut on March 9, 2023, against England, followed by his ODI debut later that month against Ireland.

Since entering the national team setup, Hridoy has also represented major franchises such as Sylhet Strikers, Fortune Barishal, Comilla Victorians, Jaffna Kings, and Rangpur Riders. His Test debut occurred in June 2026 against Zimbabwe, marking another significant milestone in his developing career. At the age of 25, Hridoy’s unbeaten 350 has become a defining moment, illustrating his ability to blend patience and aggression in his batting style.
