A 25-year-old man reportedly died from a drug overdose in Gurdaspur, Punjab, on August 28, coinciding with the festival of Raksha Bandhan. The victim, identified as Bachittar Singh from Buddha Bala village, allegedly consumed a substantial quantity of a synthetic drug known as ‘Chitta’ early in the morning. His health reportedly declined rapidly after ingestion, leading to his untimely death.

Local residents and village leaders responded with protests, criticizing the administration for failing to control the sale and distribution of the drug, which they claim is easily accessible to youths in the area.

ASI Tirath Ram, the investigating officer, confirmed that Singh’s body was sent to the Government Hospital in Gurdaspur for a post-mortem examination, which may further clarify the circumstances of his death.

Police have asserted that they are actively conducting searches in identified areas with a high prevalence of drug activity and intend to take strict action against those involved.
