2 Murder Convicts Fall In Love In Jail, Granted Parole to Marry in Rajasthan

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a rare and controversial development, two inmates serving life sentences in separate murder cases in Rajasthan are set to marry after falling in love during their incarceration. The couple, lodged at Jaipur’s Sanganer Open Jail, have been granted temporary parole following directions from the Rajasthan High Court.

High Court Clears 15-Day Parole

Acting on a January 7 order of the Rajasthan High Court, the District Parole Advisory Committee approved 15-day emergency parole for both convicts, allowing them to solemnise their marriage. The wedding is scheduled for Friday, January 23, in Barodamev village of Alwar district, the native place of the groom.

Priya Seth: The Dating App Murder Case

The bride, Priya Seth, also known as Neha Seth, is serving a life sentence for the abduction and murder of Dushyant Sharma in 2018. Police investigations revealed that she had lured Sharma through a dating application, held him hostage at her Jaipur flat, and demanded a ransom of ₹10 lakh from his father.

Despite receiving ₹3 lakh, Sharma was strangled to death. His body was later found stuffed in a suitcase in the Amer hills. Priya was convicted in 2023.

Hanuman Prasad: Five Murders in Alwar

The groom, Hanuman Prasad, was convicted in a separate 2017 case involving the brutal murder of five people in Alwar. Police said he conspired with his then-girlfriend to kill her husband and four children after being called to the house late at night. The case had sent shockwaves across the region due to the scale and brutality of the crime.

Opposition and Legal Objections

The parole decision has drawn criticism from the victim’s family in the Dushyant Sharma case. Their legal counsel has stated that they were not informed about the parole and plan to challenge the decision in court.

Prison officials have defended the decision, stating that parole was granted strictly under the Rajasthan Prisoners Open Air Camp Rules, 1972. Authorities maintain that the move aligns with rehabilitation policies applicable to eligible inmates.
