Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, has stated that his party, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), will participate in a meeting of the INDIA bloc set for September 30 to discuss alleged electoral irregularities. During a recent press interaction, Yadav underscored the need for such discussions, asserting that the Election Commission’s integrity has come under scrutiny following allegations of vote manipulation.

According to Yadav, the Election Commission’s actions have contributed to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) successive electoral victories. He claimed this practice, which he refers to as “vote theft,” began in Bihar before spreading throughout the nation. He attributed the exposure of these allegations to the concerns raised by two Election Commissioners, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, who reportedly objected multiple times regarding processes tied to the SIR exercise.

Calls for Action Against Chief Election Commissioner

Yadav reiterated his party’s demand for the arrest of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, stating, “If anyone can simply come along and orchestrate vote theft, ruining and destroying democracy, then how will the country function?” He emphasised that this demand is critical for safeguarding democratic processes and maintaining the integrity of constitutional institutions.

The INDIA Alliance meeting, scheduled for 11:00 AM, is expected to allow opposition leaders to voice their concerns more effectively. Yadav expressed his determination to ensure this meeting serves as a platform for presenting the opposition’s viewpoint against alleged electoral malpractice. The meeting is set to take place at the Constitution Club in New Delhi.

In the same vein, former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also arrived in Delhi to attend the INDIA bloc meeting. She supported Yadav’s assertions, highlighting that the opposition’s focus is primarily on the actions of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Banerjee accused him of misleading the public and remarked on the widespread sentiment against his leadership within the Election Commission.
