140 Kisan Khidmat Ghar Centres Established in Rajouri to Support Farmers and Employment

The CSR Journal Magazine

The establishment of 140 Kisan Khidmat Ghar (KKG) Centres in Rajouri district aims to enhance rural outreach and employment generation. According to officials, these centres will cater to the needs of 312 panchayats in the region. The initiative is part of a larger government strategy to provide farmers with a consolidated service model for their agricultural requirements.

Ravi Sharma, an officer from the Agriculture Department and Nodal Officer for the KKG initiative, shared details on the planning and implementation of these centres. He explained that the government initially identified 160 potential locations after grouping the panchayats. Eventually, 140 centres were operationalised to better serve the local farming community.

The primary goal of these centres is to eliminate the need for farmers to travel extensively for essential resources. By providing a one-stop solution, farmers will have access to seeds, fertilisers, and additional agricultural services at their fingertips, streamlining their operations significantly.

Infrastructure and Employment Opportunities

Infrastructure support for each KKG Centre was a critical aspect of the initiative. The government reportedly invested around Rs 8.5 lakh for the complete setup of each centre. This financial assistance ensures that the centres are well-equipped to serve the farming community effectively.

Ravi Sharma confirmed that the recruitment process focused on hiring educated locals, specifically graduates and diploma holders in fields such as agriculture, horticulture, and sericulture. Advertisements were published to encourage applications from within the panchayats, and selected candidates now manage the centres, thereby contributing to rural employment.

This focus on local employment aims to not only empower individuals but also foster an environment where expertise in agriculture can thrive. With the opening of these centres, the initiative reportedly provides significant support to farmers while simultaneously generating job opportunities.

Services Offered at the Kisan Khidmat Ghar Centres

The Kisan Khidmat Ghar Centres are designed to serve as multifaceted service points for farmers. Apart from providing physical agricultural supplies, they also facilitate digital access to various government platforms. For instance, the ‘Daksh Kisan Portal’ for skill development and the ‘Kisan Sathi Portal’ for accessing over 120 government schemes, enable streamlined application processes for farmers.

Moreover, these centres are equipped to assist with the booking and availability of quality agricultural inputs like seeds, fertilisers, and pesticides. They also support farmers in making financial transactions through micro-ATMs and POS machines, allowing easy access to services like the Kisan Credit Card (KCC).

Farmers can additionally receive expert guidance on critical agricultural issues such as soil health, plant diseases, and crop management. The centres aim to furnish them with current market prices and crop forecasts, thereby equipping them with essential knowledge for improving their yields and profits. In summary, these centres represent a comprehensive effort aimed at transforming the agricultural landscape in Rajouri district.
