In a recent development, Rakesh communicated his security concerns via a letter sent to police officials in both Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. He has made specific requests regarding the measures that need to be taken if he is transferred to the custody of the Uttar Pradesh police. In the letter, he insists that if he is escorted from Karnal Jail, both his hands and feet should be shackled, and that a continuous video recording of the entire transport process should be undertaken.

Rakesh’s communication has also emphasised the need for constant security during his time in custody. He has directed his letter to multiple officials, including Haryana’s Director General of Police (DGP), and relevant authorities in both Karnal and Shamli police departments, expressing concerns over his safety throughout the custody period.

Following the incidents involving the shooters, who are believed to have been connected to Balian’s murder, Rakesh’s name surfaced during police investigations led by the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Shamli. Police allege that he orchestrated the murder while still imprisoned in Karnal Jail, and investigators are keen to piece together his role in the incident.

Next Steps for Shamli Police

The Shamli police are scheduled to visit Karnal Jail on Wednesday to formally request Rakesh’s custody. At present, they have not submitted any application for his remand. Once the custody is obtained, the police aim to interrogate Rakesh concerning the murder plot against Ankit Balian.

Investigators are interested in details such as his communications with individuals outside the jail and his connections with the shooters involved in the case. The police are also looking into the roles of other individuals linked to the incident, including a person named Rohit.

Rakesh’s demands for shackles and video recording during the transportation have raised questions within the investigative community. While he has not mentioned any specific threats, the urgency in his letter regarding his safety has led to speculation about why he is so concerned about the potential risks in police custody.
