A government school principal in Hoshiarpur district, Punjab, has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting an 11-year-old student. The police report indicates that the incident allegedly took place on August 11, 2026, but a formal complaint was only lodged on August 27, 2026, which has raised several concerns regarding the timing of the reporting.

The case was officially registered at the Mahilpur police station after a written complaint was received. The location of the alleged crime was reported to be in the Arnyala Shahpur area, near a cremation ground. The accused, identified as Anuj Vasudeva, serves as the headmaster of the government school in the area and is a resident of Hoshiarpur.

According to the complaint, Vasudeva is accused of luring the minor into his car between 1:30 pm and 2:30 pm and driving her to a location near the cremation ground. Allegations state that he administered an intoxicating white pill to the girl prior to the assault, which reportedly left her injured.

Allegations of Administering Drugs and Injuries

The complaint includes alarming allegations that the girl suffered injuries during the alleged assault. Notably, it states that after the incident, bleeding from the child’s private parts reportedly continued, leading to the application of cotton wool that was secured with tape over the injured area. These allegations form a critical part of the investigation, and the police have highlighted that all claims are to be thoroughly examined within the judicial process.

The police have invoked several legal provisions in relation to the case. These include Section 65(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, and Section 376AB of the Indian Penal Code. The principles behind these laws aim to protect minors from sexual offences, reflecting the seriousness of these allegations.

Following the complaint, the accused was arrested and presented before a court, which subsequently remanded him into judicial custody. The victim is currently receiving medical treatment in a hospital, where her condition has been described as unstable, raising additional concerns about her recovery.

The events have provoked significant concern among members of the local community, particularly from the Hoshiarpur District Bar Association. Advocates PS Ghumman and Shamsher Singh Bhardwaj have questioned the appropriateness of the police’s response, including the absence of female personnel when taking the child’s statement.

Further scrutiny has been directed at how the matter was handled in the hospital. Reports state that staff claimed they were unaware of the circumstances surrounding the child’s treatment due to a shift change, leading to calls for better procedures in such sensitive cases.

Local citizens have expressed a desire for stringent action should the allegations be confirmed, emphasising the responsibility that educators hold in ensuring the safety of children. The situation has heightened parental anxiety regarding the security of students in schools.
