The sleeper bus reportedly implicated in the gang-rape of a teenage girl on the outskirts of Delhi had a concerning record of traffic violations. An analysis of the vehicle’s traffic history indicated eleven violations over a period of approximately eleven months. Notably, nine of these violations occurred within a span of just 23 days, shedding light on the bus’s driving practices prior to the incident on August 4.

The bus, registered under the number UP 83 ET 3789, has been seized by Delhi Police and is currently undergoing forensic examination as part of the investigation into the alleged assault of a 17-year-old Class 11 student from Mainpuri district, Uttar Pradesh. The examination of traffic records revealed that the bus’s registration took place at the Firozabad RTO office on April 28, 2026.

In May 2026, several overspeeding violations were documented, including two fines issued on May 12 for overspeeding along the Yamuna Expressway. Each fine amounted to ₹4,000. The bus was later challaned in Noida for changing lanes improperly, highlighting a pattern of unsafe driving behaviour.

Amount of Unpaid Challans in July

The records show a significant spike in traffic violations during July, with fines totalling ₹56,000 accrued exclusively from overspeeding offences. It appears that eight of the nine challans issued in the 23-day period were specifically related to speeding incidents. The traffic violations during July positioned the bus as a recurrent offender on the Yamuna Expressway and other routes in the Delhi-National Capital Region.

Specific details indicate that on July 1, the bus was fined again for overspeeding, and similar fines were issued in quick succession on July 4, 5, and 6. A major violation occurred on July 8, resulting in an outstanding fine of ₹26,000 for breaking multiple traffic laws. By July 11, further overspeeding complaints had been added to this growing record.

In contrast, the fines from May and June were eventually settled, but the latest fines from July remain unpaid, underscoring a serious neglect towards adherence to traffic regulations. This pattern raises concerns about the overall safety practices associated with this transport vehicle.

Details Surrounding the Alleged Assault

The troubling traffic history has come to light following the alleged gang-rape incident that occurred on August 4. According to police reports, the victim was en route from Mainpuri to Noida’s Sector 63 to visit her cousin when she accidentally alighted at Pari Chowk in Greater Noida during adverse weather conditions. An empty sleeper bus approached, and after signalling for it to stop, the girl boarded the vehicle, believing it was headed to her intended destination.

Following her boarding, the conductor is said to have made inappropriate advances. Police allege that both the driver and the conductor sexually assaulted the victim and subsequently threatened her if she resisted. The alleged perpetrators later abandoned her near the Kashmere Gate bus terminal in Delhi.

The girl managed to reach out to the police at the Kashmere Gate station, leading to the registration of a First Information Report on August 5. Authorities quickly located the bus and apprehended both the driver, Kuldeep, and the conductor, Sandeep, in a parking area in Timarpur. Investigators noted that the layout of the bus, with sleeper berths enclosed by curtains, may have obscured the visibility from outside, complicating the situation further.
