Zomato & Blinkit Record Highest-Ever Single-Day Orders on NYE: CEO of Zomato

The CSR Journal Magazine

Despite a nationwide strike by gig workers of Zomato and Blinkit on NYE, the highest single-day order was recorded, said Deepinder Goyal, Chief Executive Officer. He added that the operations remained mostly unaffected. Goyal’s comment came a day after workers linked with platforms such as Zomato, Swiggy and Amazon were on nation-wide protest, demanding better pay, safer working conditions and social security benefits. On social media platform X, Goyal said Zomato and Blinkit, “delivered at a record pace” on 31 December. He thanked local police for helping keep the small number of miscreants in check, allowing more than 4.5 lakh delivery partners across both platforms to fulfil over 75 lakh orders for more than 63 lakh customers in a single day. He noted that this record was made without any additional incentives for delivery partners, “Usually the incentives given are higher and no different than the past NYE days,” he wrote.

Goyal also praised delivery partners

Expressing his gratitude to his ground teams and local authorities for  great enforcement and swift coordination. Goyal also  praised the delivery partners,  “showed up despite intimidation, stood their ground, and chose honest work and progress.”

Goyal ended his post “thought for everyone”, saying, “If a system were fundamentally unfair, it would not consistently attract and retain so many people who choose to work within it. Please don’t get swept up by narratives pushed by vested interests.”

He was referring to the gig economy, one of the largest organisation job creation engines. Hinting at the impact, Goyal said the impact of the workforce would be felt when the gig workers’ children enter the delivery work force and support steady incomes, education of family, transforming the world.

Goyal’s remarks came a day after the protest by Indian Federation of App-Based Transport Workers (IFAT) in many cities, where workers demanded not only high payments, social security cover and improved safety measures.

When and why did Gig workers strike?

A nationwide strike was called on December 31 by the Gig and Platform Service Workers Union. They collectively pressed on their rights related to welfare and dignity across nations. In a statement, the Gig workers said, “All gig workers, platform workers, digital platform workers, app-based workers, and online freelancers are earnestly requested to participate in the national strike by shutting down all work-related applications and abstaining from providing services on 31 December 2025, thereby making the strike united and effective.”
