A 21-year-old woman was murdered by her sister-in-law in Indore’s Rau area after a disagreement arose from a remark regarding the accused’s brother. The accused, identified as Parvati Bai Kushwaha, has been taken into custody, and the knife believed to be used in the offence has been recovered, according to authorities. Police discovered the body of the victim, Vandana, inside a water tank located outside a locked residence in New Nehru Nagar.

Law enforcement officials were alerted to the situation and arrived promptly at the scene. Initial investigations led them to suspect foul play due to the circumstances surrounding the discovery of Vandana’s body. CCTV footage captured from the vicinity proved instrumental in identifying Kushwaha as the prime suspect.

The investigation revealed that Parvati was seen leaving the house shortly after the incident under circumstances that raised suspicion. Authorities tracked her movements to Aurobindo Hospital, where she had visited her husband, who is currently hospitalised. This prompted police to detain her for further questioning.

Conflict Over Personal Relations

During the interrogation process, Parvati allegedly disclosed that a confrontation had erupted between her and Vandana after the latter made an unflattering remark about Parvati’s brother. According to police reports, the argument escalated, leading to Parvati attacking Vandana, inflicting two fatal wounds to her neck.

After committing the act, the accused reportedly dragged Vandana’s body out of the residence and disposed of it in a water tank, presumably to hide the crime. The incident occurred on Raksha Bandhan, a day significant for familial bonds, when Vandana and Parvati were alone at the residence. Parvati’s children were reportedly at school, while her husband and brother-in-law were at the hospital.

The police have indicated that family dynamics played a role in this tragic event. Vandana had recently married Upendra on August 11, a union that was reportedly met with disapproval from family members. Additionally, there were claims of dissatisfaction regarding Vandana’s substance use within the family.

Legal Proceedings and Future Investigation

Following the incident, a missing-person complaint regarding Vandana was filed at the Chandan Nagar police station after she was reported missing. The case escalated rapidly, with investigators examining local CCTV footage that revealed Parvati’s actions leading up to the murder. This evidence proved critical in piecing together the circumstances of the crime.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Narendra Singh Rawat acknowledged the swift resolution of the case, attributing the quick arrests and findings to the video surveillance and efficient police work. The knife used in the incident was recovered based on the confession and information provided by Kushwaha.

Following the arrest, police have registered a formal murder case against Parvati Bai Kushwaha. Vandana’s body was forwarded for a post-mortem examination and later returned to her family. Ongoing investigations aim to clarify the complete chain of events and explore any additional relevant aspects of this tragic occurrence.
