A 24-year-old woman from Ghaziabad has been arrested for allegedly fabricating a gang rape case involving a man and two others, according to officials from the Kavi Nagar police circle. The arrest followed a detailed police probe that found significant contradictions in her account.
The woman had filed a police complaint on May 5 at Madhuban Bapudham Police Station, claiming that a man she met at the district court lured her to a roadside eatery with the pretext of returning intimate photos and videos. She alleged that the man, along with two unknown accomplices, forced her into a car and raped her as it was in motion, later abandoning her in a deserted area.
However, law enforcement authorities began to suspect foul play after checking CCTV footage from the dhaba where the alleged incident began. Contrary to her claims, the video showed the woman dining alone and leaving the premises without any interaction with the accused.
CCTV, Phone Data Expose False Rape Claims
Further, surveillance from the accused’s residence reportedly confirmed that he was home during the entire timeframe she had mentioned. Investigators also used mobile phone tracking data, which showed that the accused and the complainant were never in the same location that evening.
Medical tests performed on the woman showed no signs of injury or evidence consistent with her allegations. These discrepancies led officers to scrutinise her background further.
As investigations progressed, police uncovered that the woman had been previously charged in multiple criminal cases across Ghaziabad. She was allegedly associated with a gang operating in the area and had been booked under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act. Officials confirmed she was personally named in at least five FIRs related to extortion, rioting, criminal intimidation, and unlawful restraint.
How Police Discovered the False Allegations?
Adding to the complexity, police also discovered an earlier complaint filed by the same woman, alleging that in 2022 the accused—described as a finance professional raped her at his office and used intimate footage to threaten her. However, like her recent claim, this older allegation also lacked corroborative evidence.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Swatantra Kumar Singh said the woman has now been arrested for filing a false report and fabricating evidence. She has been booked under Section 231 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which addresses false evidence.
The case highlights growing concern among authorities over misuse of legal mechanisms and the serious consequences false allegations can have, both for the accused and for genuine victims of sexual violence.
