Lucknow Launches QR Code Traffic Campaign for Citizen Participation

The CSR Journal Magazine

Lucknow has introduced a new campaign, named the Sahbhagita initiative, aimed at engaging residents in identifying and resolving traffic and road-safety issues. Launched by the city’s traffic police, this initiative invites citizens to actively participate in addressing frequent concerns rather than merely voicing complaints. Through the use of a bilingual Google Form accessible via a QR code, residents can report various traffic problems and propose potential solutions.

Under the Sahbhagita initiative, residents are encouraged to pinpoint recurring issues such as problematic junctions, unsafe U-turns, pedestrian crossings, school-zone traffic congestion, and parking bottlenecks. The accompanying Google Form allows citizens to submit photographs and precise location details to illustrate the issues they are concerned about.

This initiative aims not only to gather complaints but also to provide a platform for citizens to articulate the specific causes of traffic disturbances and offer constructive suggestions for improvements. Involving a wide range of stakeholders, including resident welfare associations, educational institutions, transport organisations, and road-safety groups, the campaign seeks to enhance overall road safety and traffic management in Lucknow.

Reporting Traffic Problems Made Simple

The Sahbhagita initiative empowers residents to report a variety of traffic-related concerns. Citizens can utilise the provided Google Form to flag issues including, but not limited to, hazardous pedestrian crossings, congested traffic areas around schools, and inefficient parking facilities. Each identified location requires a separate submission to ensure precise tracking and resolution of issues.

To contribute effectively, residents must include several details in their submissions. This includes the name of the location, its geographic coordinates, at least one clear photograph demonstrating the issue, and a detailed description regarding the frequency and nature of the problem. Additionally, residents have the option to upload marked photographs, maps, or sketches that illustrate their proposed solutions.

The process is designed to be straightforward. Once citizens identify a recurring road-safety issue, they need to scan the QR code, take a clear photograph of the problem, input the location details, and submit their suggestions through the Sahbhagita Google Form. This structured approach aims to facilitate clear communication and effective problem-solving.

Evaluation and Implementation of Suggestions

The suggestions submitted by residents will not necessarily be put into action automatically. The traffic police will evaluate each proposal based on several criteria, including road safety impact, technical feasibility, compliance with existing standards, and the specific conditions of the site in question. This assessment process ensures that only viable and effective solutions are pursued.

In cases where technical examination or approvals are required, the traffic department will liaise with the relevant agencies to gain insights and facilitate implementation. This collaborative approach aims to foster an environment where citizens can contribute meaningfully to the management of traffic and safety on the roads.

The Sahbhagita initiative represents an evolving trend in urban governance where citizen engagement plays a critical role in enhancing public services. By harnessing the collective insights of residents, the traffic police aim to create a safer and more efficient travel environment in Lucknow.
