The White House is facing scrutiny regarding its recent appointment of Beni Rae Harmony, a 24-year-old assistant press secretary, in light of a 2021 photograph showing her with a rifle and wearing a T-shirt with a vulgar anti-Biden slogan. Harmony’s rise within Donald Trump’s administration follows her prior role as a White House correspondent at Real America’s Voice, a right-wing media organisation, where she began her tenure in September 2025.

The image, which was allegedly posted on Instagram in November 2021, depicts Harmony alongside a man, both holding rifles and showcasing their shirts with the message “F*** Joe Biden”. The photograph has gained renewed attention on social media platforms following her recent appointment, although Harmony has not commented publicly on the matter.

Details Surrounding the Photograph

According to reports from The Guardian, the photograph was shared on Instagram by Jarome Bell, a far-right Republican who ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 2022. In the original post, Bell described Harmony as his campaign’s director of public affairs, stating, “My campaign Public Affairs Director @beniraeharmony is a beast. This is how we roll.”

The image resurfaced in December 2021 via a post from PatriotTakes, an organisation critical of the MAGA movement, which also identified Harmony as an aide to Arizona congressman Paul Gosar. Rather than denying her involvement in the photograph, Harmony seemed to confirm its authenticity.

The day after the post’s resurgence, she shared another image of herself, wearing the same T-shirt in the same location, smiling at the camera. A social media user commented on the nature of her relationship with the man in the photograph, to which Harmony jocularly replied that he was her uncle.

White House Response to Criticism

Despite the controversy, the White House has expressed strong support for Harmony’s appointment. Deputy White House press secretary Anna Kelly lauded her contributions to the MAGA movement as a White House correspondent, asserting that she would be an asset to the administration.

“Beni Rae Harmony has been a trusted voice for the MAGA movement,” Kelly stated, emphasising the value of Harmony’s experience as an assistant press secretary. Harmony’s LinkedIn profile indicates that her previous experience includes working as a producer for Jack Posobiec at Turning Point USA and as a press aide specialising in crisis management for Paul Gosar and former Florida congressman Matt Gaetz.

This background has led to discussions regarding the blurred lines between political advocacy and journalistic integrity within the Trump administration. The administration has reportedly made significant changes to the dynamics of the White House press pool, prioritising correspondents from partisan media outlets while limiting access for organisations that have received criticism from Trump.

It has been noted that Trump’s aides have taken on a more active role in determining which journalists are permitted to ask questions during press encounters, often favouring those who demonstrate support for his administration.
