India celebrated Eid on 31st March (Monday) with a clash being reported between two groups from the same community in a village in the new district of Haryana. The incident that took place on Monday, after the community members ended the Eid prayers, has injured five people.
According to police officials, the incident occurred at 9 AM as a fallout of an old argument between groups led by individuals called Rashid and Sajid in Nuh village. After the violent clashes broke out, teams from several police stations reached the village and restored order. Currently, the police team has been deployed to the village to ensure peacekeeping.
The brawl started after members of one group, who were returning home after offering namaz at an Eidgah, had an altercation with some people from the other group. Both groups then attacked each other with sticks, and the situation escalated. After the police reached the spot, the violence could be stopped, and the injured were rushed to the hospital.
Nuh Violence
Last year, violence broke out in Haryana’s Muslim-dominated Nuh district during the Brij Mandal Jalaabhishek yatra by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). The armed mob saw stone pelting and setting vehicles on fire, which took the lives of two home guards, 10 police personnel, and many others were gravely injured. According to the 55-page report released by the Press Club of India, called ‘In The Wake of Nuh: Report on State Repression’, the state ‘managed to brutalise a set of Muslim youths, destroy the homes and livelihood of other set of unconnected people and further the communalisation in society and of the state functionaries.’
