The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami, has announced that the initial phase of the Char Dham Yatra has been remarkably successful. This news comes as a significant number of pilgrims continue to arrive during the ongoing second phase of the pilgrimage. The state government claims to have implemented necessary arrangements to ensure a safe and seamless experience for all participants.

Reports indicate that the state’s Disaster Management Department is on high alert in all districts linked to the yatra. Dhami highlighted ongoing evaluations and monitoring conducted by senior officials at both state and district levels to assess the situation and reinforce arrangements as required.

Record Footfall at Char Dham Shrines

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the 2023 Char Dham Yatra is setting new records in terms of visitor numbers. This year’s pilgrimage has already seen an unprecedented turnout, with Badrinath and Gangotri Dham achieving their highest visitor levels to date. Specifically, 1.81 million pilgrims have visited Badrinath, while Gangotri has welcomed 841,000 devotees thus far.

Additionally, the number of pilgrims visiting Yamunotri has surpassed 750,000, and around 1.56 million have paid their respects at Kedarnath. As reported by the CMO, a total of 5,323,401 individuals have visited the four Char Dham shrines during this season, marking an increase from the 4.6 million who visited in the same period last year.

With approximately one-and-a-half months remaining in this year’s yatra season, officials anticipate that these numbers may rise further. The growing interest is attributed to improved logistics and ongoing promotion by the state government.

Safety Measures and Vigilance During the Pilgrimage

The Hemkund Sahib pilgrimage has also received a warm reception, with visitor numbers reaching 352,765, the highest in recent years. Chief Minister Dhami has emphasised that safety remains the top priority for all attendees, prompting the implementation of various measures to maintain order and security throughout the event.

In particular, the Disaster Management Department maintains a 24-hour alert status in crucial districts, including Rudraprayag, Chamoli, and Uttarkashi. The continuous monitoring of safety arrangements underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining the pilgrimage’s integrity while protecting the wellbeing of all participants.

Senior officials are actively engaged in reviewing the arrangements, demonstrating a proactive approach to managing the pilgrimage experience. The commitment to ensuring a safe environment for pilgrims contributes to the overall success of the Char Dham Yatra.
