US Actor Selma Blair Arrested Following Alleged Assault on Flight Attendants

The CSR Journal Magazine

US actor Selma Blair, recognised for her roles in ‘Cruel Intentions’ and ‘Legally Blonde’, was taken into custody on Sunday night after allegedly assaulting two flight attendants during a Delta Air Lines flight. The aircraft, travelling from Los Angeles to New York, landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport, where authorities apprehended the actor, aged 54, shortly after its arrival.

Reports indicate that Blair allegedly punched one flight attendant and bit another. Following the incident, both Blair and a crew member were transported to a hospital for medical evaluation. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has provided an official account of the events led to her arrest.

A representative for Blair commented that she underwent a medical emergency, which purportedly contributed to her conduct during the flight. Upon landing, the actor reportedly received immediate medical assistance and is currently described as being in stable condition.

Legal Proceedings Initiated by FBI

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has issued a summons to Blair regarding the alleged assaults that occurred on board the flight. According to federal law enforcement officials, the charges mentioned in the summons involve assaults that fall under the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States.

This case is anticipated to be processed by the petty violations court located at the federal court in Brooklyn. However, a court date for her to appear has not been established. The FBI confirmed it had received notifications about the potential incident but refrained from providing further details, citing their policy on active investigations.

Delta Air Lines has expressed a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding unruly or unlawful behaviour on its flights. The airline affirmed that ensuring the safety of all passengers and crew members remains their foremost priority.

Blair’s History of Incidents and Advocacy

In her apology, Blair expressed regret for her actions, saying, “I deeply regret the things I said and did.” Since then, she has navigated personal challenges, including her diagnosis of multiple sclerosis in 2018, and has emerged as a prominent advocate for disability rights.

Earlier in 2023, Blair joined former President Joe Biden at the White House to commemorate the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, further solidifying her commitment to raising awareness about disabilities and supporting associated rights.
