The Shri Gandhi Bal Niketan Parivar organised the Upadhyay Samman 2026 at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Town Hall in Ratangarh, Rajasthan to honour eminent literary critic Ganesh Narayandas Devi and senior journalist Srinivasan Jain for their outstanding contributions to literature and journalism.

Purpose Behind the Award

Upadhyay Samman award was instituted in 2024 in memory of well-known educationist Late Champalal Upadhyay, Advocate. It was instituted with an aim to recognise individuals who have made exceptional contributions in fields that is inspiring society.

The Upadhyay Samman award is rooted in the vision of Shri Gandhi Bal Niketan, Ratangarh-based institution known for its commitment to expanding educational access and fostering innovation in learning, with a broader mission of community-led educational transformation.
On this occasion, Ganesh Narayandas Devi, renowned for his pioneering work in preserving indigenous languages and cultures said, “This recognition is not just for me, but for the countless voices and languages that define India’s cultural richness. We must continue to protect and celebrate this diversity.”

Meanwhile, Srinivasan Jain pointed out the importance of credible journalism in today AI times. “In an age of information overload, the responsibility of journalists to remain factual, balanced, and fearless becomes even more crucial. I dedicate this honour to the principles of honest journalism,” he said.

Addressing the gathering, chief guest Sunny Sebastian, veteran journalist and former Vice-Chancellor of Haridev Joshi University of Journalism and Mass Communication, emphasised the significance of such recognitions. “Awards like the Upadhyay Samman are vital in acknowledging intellectual leadership and preserving the values of truth, knowledge, and social commitment. Both awardees represent excellence and integrity in public life,” he said.

Organiser Rajiv Upadhyaya noted that the Upadhyay Samman aims to inspire younger generations by showcasing role models who embody dedication and excellence. “Through this award, we seek to carry forward the legacy of Late Shri Champalal Upadhyay and motivate society towards meaningful contributions,” he said.
