UP Triple Murder: Man Kills Wife, 2 Daughters For Stepping Out Without Wearing Burqa in Shamli

The CSR Journal Magazine

A chilling case of alleged domestic violence has emerged from Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district, where a man is accused of murdering his wife and two minor daughters and burying their bodies in the courtyard of his house. The incident came to light nearly a week after the victims were reported missing, prompting a police investigation that led to a shocking confession.

Accused Identified, Police Detail the Crime

Police have identified the accused as Farooq, a resident of Garhi Daulat (Garhi) village under the Kandhla police station area. According to investigators, Farooq allegedly killed his wife, Tahira, and their daughters, Afreen and Sahreen, following repeated domestic disputes, allegedly linked to disagreements over clothing and family “honour.”

Investigation revealed that Farooq’s wife had asked him for money for some work, which led to an argument. The wife, in anger, left for her parents’ house without wearing a burqa. This led to Farooq feeling his “honour had been compromised”, the police said.

Superintendent of Police N. P. Singh said the murders took place on the night of December 9–10. Farooq allegedly woke his wife under the pretext of making tea and shot her with an illegal country-made pistol. When the elder daughter attempted to intervene after hearing the gunshot, she was also shot. The younger daughter was allegedly strangled.

Bodies Buried in Courtyard Pit

Investigators revealed that the crime appeared to be premeditated. Farooq had allegedly dug a deep pit in the courtyard of his house earlier, claiming it was meant for constructing a toilet or septic tank. After killing the three, he buried their bodies in the pit and concealed it with bricks to avoid suspicion.

The bodies were recovered after police questioned Farooq in connection with the disappearance. They have since been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause and timing of death.

Family Disputes and Alleged Motive

Police said the couple had been experiencing frequent arguments for several months. Farooq was reportedly living separately from his parents due to ongoing family tensions. During interrogation, he allegedly told investigators that financial stress, repeated quarrels, and feelings of anger and humiliation drove him to commit the crime.

Investigators also stated that the dispute escalated after Tahira had visited her parental home without wearing a burqa, which allegedly angered Farooq. The couple had five children in total; three survived as they were not present at the time of the incident.

Confession, Arrest, and Ongoing Probe

The case surfaced after Farooq’s father and the village head approached police with concerns about the missing woman and children. Farooq initially gave vague and inconsistent answers but later allegedly confessed during questioning. Police have recovered the weapon used in the crime and arrested the accused. Further investigation and legal proceedings are underway.
