81-Year-Old UP Priest Shot Dead After Incorrect Prediction of Son

The CSR Journal Magazine

An 81-year-old priest was shot dead at a Shiva temple in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, following a prediction he made regarding a couple’s future child. The police reported that the shooting occurred on the night of October 13, when two unidentified assailants arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire on Swami Devanand Bharti. The local law enforcement authorities were alerted to the scene shortly after the incident took place.

Upon their arrival, police examined the area and subsequently transported the priest’s body for a post-mortem examination. Initial investigations revealed a photograph of a local resident, Harendra, at the crime scene, prompting further inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the murder.

In response to the incident, senior police officials established multiple teams to identify the suspects involved in the shooting. Their efforts led to the arrest of two individuals, identified as Hashim and his son Zeeshan, both residents of the village. The police also recovered the motorcycle used in the crime, along with two country-made pistols and cartridges.

Motivation Behind the Murder

During the interrogation process, the arrested father-son duo provided a detailed account of their motivations for the crime. They explained that Zeeshan’s wife was due to give birth approximately one-and-a-half months prior to the incident. The priest had allegedly predicted that the couple would have a son; however, they welcomed a daughter instead.

This discrepancy reportedly led to a heated dispute between the accused and the priest. In addition to their conflict with Swami Devanand Bharti, the two men were also involved in a separate dispute with another villager, Harendra. According to police reports, the father and son conspired to murder the priest and frame Harendra for the crime.

This plan was allegedly devised to divert suspicion away from themselves. As part of their scheme, Hashim and Zeeshan reportedly obtained a photograph of their neighbour, Devendra, from his mobile phone. After fatally shooting the priest, they left the photograph at the crime scene, intending to mislead investigators into believing that Devendra had visited the temple prior to the shooting.

Police Investigation and Arrests

The police investigation into the murder has been thorough, with officers meticulously gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses. Following the arrest of Hashim and Zeeshan, police confirmed the recovery of the motorcycle and weapons linked to the crime. The two country-made pistols and cartridges were crucial pieces of evidence that solidified the case against the suspects.

As the investigation continues, law enforcement officials are focused on ensuring that all aspects of the case are thoroughly examined. They are also working to clarify the motives behind the murder and the broader implications of the incident within the community. The police have expressed their commitment to bringing all responsible parties to justice.

The tragic event has raised concerns within the local community regarding safety and the potential for violence stemming from personal disputes. As the investigation unfolds, residents are left to grapple with the implications of such a violent act occurring in their midst.
