Pawan Singh Fined Rs 3,000 by Uttar Pradesh Court for Missing Hearing in Wife’s Maintenance Case

The CSR Journal Magazine

A family court in Uttar Pradesh has imposed a fine of ₹3,000 on Bhojpuri actor and BJP MLC Pawan Singh for his absence during a scheduled hearing in a maintenance case initiated by his wife, Jyoti Singh. The hearing took place on Saturday before Additional Principal Judge Kamalapati Prajapati. Singh’s lawyer, Harivansh Singh, explained that the actor was unable to attend due to his mother, Pratima Devi, being unwell. A medical certificate and a request for mediation were submitted to the court in support of his absence.

The court’s decision to impose the fine reflects its view on the importance of attendance in legal proceedings. The next hearing has been set for November 12, 2026, allowing both parties to prepare for the upcoming session. Jyoti Singh, present at the hearing alongside her legal representative, expressed her frustration regarding the delays in the case, which has been ongoing for four years.

Jyoti Singh’s lawyer stated that the prolonged nature of the proceedings has caused significant distress for his client. The maintenance petition was originally filed on April 22, 2022, following the couple’s marriage on March 6, 2018. The case has seen various developments, including accusations from Jyoti Singh regarding her husband’s conduct.

Accusations and Allegations

During her appearance in court, Jyoti Singh accused Pawan Singh of undermining the judicial process by allegedly using his influence to delay proceedings. She articulated her grievances to reporters, stating, “The case was filed four years ago. There is a limit to one’s patience. My life has been ruined.” This statement underscores her emotional turmoil and the perceived inadequacies of the legal system in addressing her concerns.

In a related incident in 2025, Jyoti was reportedly seen in distress outside Pawan Singh’s residence in Lucknow, where police had intervened to prevent her entry. She alleged that her husband had filed a First Information Report (FIR) against her, although police clarified that no formal case had been registered at that time. Instead, they indicated that she was being questioned as part of ongoing legal matters.

Jyoti Singh has also raised serious allegations against Pawan Singh, including claims of infidelity. She stated that he had taken another woman to a hotel shortly after the elections, which she found intolerable. Her accusations reflect deeper issues within their marriage, contributing to the ongoing legal disputes.

Context of the Legal Proceedings

The maintenance case filed by Jyoti Singh is part of a broader context of marital discord and legal battles between the couple. Jyoti has maintained that her complaints focus on maintenance and not criminal charges, despite the complexities surrounding their relationship. The ongoing proceedings have attracted media attention, particularly due to the public nature of their disputes.

As the next court date approaches, both parties are expected to prepare for further discussions regarding the maintenance claim. Jyoti Singh’s determination to seek justice highlights the challenges faced by individuals in similar situations, where legal recourse is often fraught with delays and emotional strain.

The case serves as a reminder of the intricacies involved in family law and the impact such disputes can have on personal lives. With the court’s decision to impose a fine and set a new hearing date, the legal saga between Pawan Singh and Jyoti Singh continues to unfold, drawing public interest and scrutiny.
