On the occasion of Mahasaptami, actor Ranbir Kapoor sought blessings at the North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja Samity pandal in Mumbai on Saturday. He was accompanied by his close friend and filmmaker Ayan Mukerji. The event marks a significant cultural celebration in the city, attracting numerous attendees each year.

Traditional Attire and Respectful Rituals

Ranbir Kapoor attended the event dressed in festive traditional attire, opting for a silk embroidered maroon short kurta complemented by cream wide-leg trousers. Ayan Mukerji, also dressed for the occasion, wore a classic royal blue kurta paired with white pyjamas. Inside the intricately designed pandal, Ranbir was observed bowing respectfully before the altar, where the officiating priest applied a sacred red tilak to his forehead as a blessing.

In one notable photograph from the event, Ranbir stood barefoot with his hands folded in a gesture of namaste, positioned directly in front of the grand 17-foot idol of Goddess Durga. This moment highlighted the reverence associated with the festival and the importance of seeking blessings during such auspicious occasions.

Video footage from the event captured Ayan Mukerji escorting Ranbir through the venue while the crowd cheered enthusiastically. Ranbir responded to the audience by waving and blowing kisses, showcasing his appreciation for their support. Another clip depicted him smiling and shaking hands with attendees, acknowledging the presence of photographers who documented the festive atmosphere.

Significance of the North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja Samity

The North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja Samity holds deep personal significance for Ayan Mukerji, as the historic pandal was established in 1948 by his grandfather, the pioneering producer Sashadhar Mukherjee, along with other family members. This event, commonly referred to as the Mukherjee family Durga Puja, is actively managed and organised by members of the extended family, including well-known figures such as cousins Kajol, Rani Mukerji, and Tanishaa Mukerji.

This annual celebration has become a prominent gathering spot for the Hindi film fraternity, drawing numerous celebrities and fans alike. The familial ties and historical roots of the pandal contribute to its significance within the community, making it a cornerstone of cultural festivities in Mumbai.

Ranbir Kapoor and Ayan Mukerji’s relationship extends beyond personal friendship, as they have collaborated professionally for over a decade. Ayan directed Ranbir in his feature debut Wake Up Sid in 2009, followed by the romantic drama Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani in 2013. Their most recent collaboration was the fantasy action film Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva, released in 2022, which has further solidified their partnership in the industry.
