UP Man Bludgeons Wife to Death Over Suspected Affair, Surrenders in Police Station

The CSR Journal Magazine

A shocking incident unfolded on Sunday morning in Jhaupur, Radhanagar, Fatehpur district, where a man brutally killed his wife with a crowbar, allegedly suspecting her of an illicit relationship.

The accused, Ajay Singh, later walked into the police station with blood-stained hands and the murder weapon, confessing to killing his wife, 33-year-old Shikha Singh. Police immediately detained him and launched a forensic investigation at the crime scene.

Marital Discord and Murder Confession

According to police, Ajay admitted during interrogation that long-standing disputes had been ongoing between him, his wife, and her family. After years of disagreements, Shikha insisted on living separately from Ajay’s joint family, prompting him to rent accommodation in the Jhaupur locality. Ajay alleged that his wife was involved with another man and frequently insisted on going out alone.

On Sunday morning, a heated argument escalated when Shikha refused to disclose where she wanted to go. Enraged, Ajay picked up a crowbar and struck her four times on the head within five seconds. Shikha reportedly screamed after the first blow and then collapsed, dying on the spot.

Dowry Harassment Allegations by Wife’s Family

Shikha’s father Rambaran, mother Guddi, and brother Viru reached the house soon after learning about the incident. Her brother accused Ajay and his brother-in-law Sanjay of repeatedly demanding dowry. He claimed they had recently been pressuring Shikha for ₹30,000 and a buffalo.

According to him, Ajay killed Shikha as part of a conspiracy and was now fabricating allegations of infidelity to shield himself. Based on the family’s complaint, police have registered a case of dowry death against Ajay.

Accused Stayed in Room Before Surrendering

Ajay told police he sat beside his wife’s body for some time, overwhelmed with regret and considering fleeing. Fearing harassment of his family by authorities, he ultimately locked the house and walked to the police station to confess. Neighbours stated they only learned of the killing after police arrived at the rented house.

Children in Shock

The couple’s two sons, Anuj (12) and Yuvraj (7), who live with their maternal grandparents, broke down at the police station upon hearing of their mother’s death. Anuj, crying, told officers that his father often abused and beat his mother. Meanwhile, Ajay’s family claimed he had suffered from poor mental health for several years and rarely interacted with villagers.

Ajay reportedly has a share of six to seven bighas of ancestral land, some reportedly fit for plotting. Following the murder, both families began discussions about securing the property for Shikha’s children as legal heirs.
