Trump States Iran Conflict Resolution Will Involve Netanyahu Collaboration

The CSR Journal Magazine

During a recent telephone interview, United States President Donald Trump emphasised that the decision regarding the conclusion of the ongoing conflict with Iran will be made in collaboration with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Trump remarked that Iran was on the brink of threatening Israel before the military intervention began, stating, “Iran was going to destroy Israel and everything else around it. We’ve worked together.” He acknowledged the joint military efforts that had been undertaken to mitigate the Iranian threat.

Mutual Consideration in Decision-Making

When pressed on whether the authority to end the military action rests solely with Washington or if it includes Israeli leadership, Trump indicated a joint approach. He commented, “I think it’s mutual, a little bit. We’ve been talking. I’ll make a decision at the right time, but everything’s going to be taken into account.” This feedback suggests that while Trump retains the final decision-making power, Netanyahu’s input will play a significant role.

Potential for Independent Israeli Actions

In response to queries regarding whether Israel might continue military operations independently should the US choose to cease its actions, Trump stated that he did not foresee such a scenario, saying, “I don’t think it’s going to be necessary.” This statement points to the united front that both countries are currently presenting in their military operations following an extensive joint effort that commenced on February 28, resulting in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.

Iran’s New Leadership and Impact

Shortly after the death of Khamenei, it was announced that his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, has been appointed as the new supreme authority in Iran. Trump, however, refrained from providing extensive commentary on this political development, stating simply, “We’ll see what happens.” His diplomatic tone reflects a careful monitoring of the evolving situation in Iran, particularly after he had earlier warned that the new Iranian leadership would struggle to maintain power without the endorsement of the United States.

Trump’s Comments on Israeli Domestic Politics

In addition to discussing military matters, Trump touched on Israeli domestic politics, reiterating his support for Netanyahu who is currently facing legal issues, including charges of bribery and fraud. Trump criticized Israeli President Isaac Herzog for not granting a pardon to Netanyahu, stating, “Bibi Netanyahu should be given that pardon immediately.” Herzog’s office responded by asserting that Israel operates under the rule of law and that the pardon process is currently being reviewed by the Justice Ministry.

Strategy in Regional Dynamics

Trump claimed that the ongoing warfare significantly reduces the risk of a broader regional conflict. He expressed confidence in the leadership of both himself and Netanyahu, asserting that their combined efforts have been pivotal for Israel’s survival. He added that the military actions against Iran might prompt regional actors like Hamas to disarm, predicting that “many people will disarm because of the war against Iran.” Trump characterized the current state of Iran as unprecedentedly weak, suggesting that the situation is likely to deteriorate further for them.
