This statement was made by Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei, who indicated that Tehran is prepared to respond robustly to any expanded US sanctions, particularly those affecting nations collaborating with the US.

Baghaei stated, “Any escalation of this situation will undoubtedly bring about consequences,” emphasising that Iran’s approach will not be passive. Additionally, the newly appointed head of Iran’s national security body remarked that support for the sanctions from any nation would be perceived as an “act of war.” The context of these warnings emerges from a backdrop of ongoing military engagement and political strife, particularly related to the Iranian war.

In the run-up to the anticipated sanctions announcement, Iran’s currency plummeted to a record low, reflecting the economic strain experienced by the nation.
