Trump Renews Push For Nobel Peace Prize, Says he Settled Eight Wars

The CSR Journal Magazine

On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump reiterated his ambition to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, asserting that he has “settled eight wars.” Speaking from the Oval Office, he expressed confidence that his contributions to peace are unprecedented and he alleged that no prior president has achieved such outcomes.

He stated that failing to acknowledge his efforts would be a significant “discredit” to the Nobel Committee. In his comments, Trump also indicated that he believed he deserved the honour more than former President Barack Obama, who was awarded the prize in 2009 shortly after taking office.

Reference to Current Conflicts

In his remarks, Trump alluded to ongoing peace negotiations and hinted at further efforts to resolve the US-Iran conflict, which has been ongoing for several months. He emphasised his belief that he has made considerable strides in international diplomacy, claiming, “I’ve done stuff that nobody else has ever done,” while justifying his position on the Nobel nominations.

He contrasted his achievements with those of Obama, suggesting that Obama’s 2009 award lacked substantiation. “Obama got it, and he didn’t do anything,” Trump remarked, contending that Obama was unsure of the reasons behind his selection for the prize at the time.

During his discussion, Trump also referenced last year’s Nobel Peace Prize recipient, Maria Corina Machado of Venezuela. He claimed she had expressed to him that he merited the prize more than her and purportedly handed over her award to him during a meeting at the Oval Office.

Achievements Claimed by Trump

Trump highlighted several accomplishments during his presidency, asserting that he had resolved eight ongoing conflicts and was responsible for securing the release of all hostages. He insisted that his utilisation of tariffs as a diplomatic tool has played a crucial role in preventing many wars, which he argued saved lives by dissuading violence.

As the announcement date for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize approaches, Trump reiterated his belief in the significance of his contributions. His comments have sparked discussions about the influence of American leadership in global peace efforts and the criteria for such prestigious awards, drawing attention ahead of the upcoming announcement by the Norwegian Peace Committee.

In concluding his statements, Trump maintained that regardless of the Nobel Committee’s decision, he acknowledged his diplomatic efforts as noteworthy. His assertions continue to emphasise the narrative that he believes is essential to his legacy as a peacemaker.
