Trump Declares No US Troop Deployment to Iran Nuclear Site, Criticizes Mojtaba Khamenei

The CSR Journal Magazine

In light of escalating tensions in the Middle East, President Donald Trump has confirmed that the United States is not considering the deployment of military forces to Iran for securing nuclear materials. During an interview with The New York Post, Trump stated unequivocally that there are currently no plans to initiate a ground operation at any vital Iranian nuclear facility.

This statement comes amidst turmoil in Iran following the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei due to US-Israeli airstrikes and the rapid succession of his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, into the leadership position. Trump expressed dissatisfaction with Mojtaba’s ascension but refrained from detailing potential US responses.

Media Speculations on Military Actions

Reports had circulated indicating that the Trump administration was contemplating the possibility of sending troops to Iran to secure uranium stored in an underground facility near Isfahan. This facility reportedly contains uranium enriched to approximately 60 percent purity, approaching the threshold for weapons-grade material. In a conversation from his golf club in Doral, Florida, Trump dismissed the notion of an imminent military mission but acknowledged that he has not completely ruled out military options should the situation deteriorate.

Trump’s Position on Military Engagement

Trump emphasized his approach to potential military engagement by stating that he does not subscribe to the traditional refrain of previous presidents declaring “there will be no boots on the ground.” He implied flexibility in the face of changing circumstances, stating, “I don’t have the yips with respect to boots on the ground.”

Response to Mojtaba Khamenei’s Appointment

In response to Mojtaba Khamenei being appointed as the new supreme leader of Iran, Trump reiterated his disapproval. Mojtaba, aged 56, has been perceived as a significant figure within Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. When questioned about how the United States might respond to this leadership change, Trump opted not to disclose any strategic details but made it clear that he was not pleased with the new leader.

Prior to Mojtaba’s confirmation, Trump had already voiced his discontent, warning that the emergence of another Khamenei without US approval would be unacceptable and threatened potential consequences for his leadership.

Iran’s Defiance Following Leadership Transition

The transition of power in Tehran has been marked by bold statements from Iranian officials affirming their commitment to resist the United States and Israel. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi asserted that Iran would persist in defending its national interests and rights.

He stated, “We pledge that, in defense of the rights of the great Iranian nation, the advancement of national interests and security, and the realization of the lofty goals of the Islamic Revolution, we shall not falter for a moment,” following the announcement of Mojtaba’s leadership. Likewise, Iran’s defense council reiterated its loyalty, declaring, “We will obey the commander-in-chief until the last drop of our blood.”
