The CSR Journal Magazine

In a notable anti-narcotics initiative in Gen A. Mungiakami, Tripura, the Assam Rifles collaborated with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) to confiscate a substantial quantity of Yaba tablets.

An official statement confirmed that approximately 4,50,000 Yaba tablets, valued at Rs 45 crore, were seized from a TATA truck registered as AS-01T-C7674. Law enforcement agencies apprehended one individual in connection with the seizure, who has since been transferred to the DRI for further investigation.

Previous Drug Trafficking Incident

Additionally, the Assam Rifles and DRI had previously engaged in another operation following credible information regarding drug trafficking in Khowai district. During this operation, on January 24, 2026, they apprehended an individual from Karimganj, Assam, who was in the process of transporting 1,60,000 Yaba tablets, worth Rs 16 crores, along National Highway 8. Authorities also seized the Tata truck used for the transport of these illicit drugs. Investigations concerning this case are ongoing.

Ongoing Efforts Against Drug Trafficking

The Assam Rifles continue to play a vital role in anti-narcotics operations throughout the region, frequently conducting missions aimed at disrupting drug trafficking networks. The recent seizure represents a critical accomplishment in their ongoing efforts to counter drug-related activities, especially in light of the forthcoming Republic Day celebrations, as noted in the official statement.

Related Operation in Mizoram

In a separate but related operation, the Assam Rifles acted on actionable intelligence to conduct a drug seizure near Ngur in the Champhai district of Mizoram. During this operation, an individual riding a Kenbo motorcycle was stopped for inspection.

The search resulted in the discovery of 2.2 kg of Methamphetamine tablets, a highly potent psychotropic substance with an estimated international market value of Rs 6.6 crore. The individual identified as Lalhmangaihzuala was taken into custody. The seized drugs and the arrested person have been handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department in Champhai for comprehensive investigation and appropriate legal proceedings.
