Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has issued orders for the development of Indiramma housing colonies within the core urban region of Hyderabad. The directive came during a review of the Indiramma Urban Housing scheme held on July 21, 2026. The Chief Minister specifically requested officials to assess the availability of government-owned lands suitable for the housing project.

During the meeting, CM Reddy instructed the relevant authorities to identify unused lands located within the limits of the Outer Ring Road (ORR). Officials provided updates regarding potential housing sites across various Assembly constituencies. It was concluded that lands owned by the Police, Revenue, and Transport departments would be repurposed for the Indiramma housing initiative.

Revanth Reddy highlighted the importance of situating these housing units close to employment sectors. He expressed concern that houses situated far from residential areas could impede the residents’ access to job opportunities and adversely affect their livelihoods. The Chief Minister noted that many pre-existing houses for the underprivileged, located on the outskirts, have remained unoccupied.

Construction Plans and Subsidies for Beneficiaries

The Telangana government is set to construct Indiramma housing units specifically tailored for low-income families within the core urban area. The design of each flat will encompass approximately 528 square feet, with a usable carpet area of 400 square feet. While the construction cost per unit is estimated at ₹11 lakh, a significant subsidy of ₹5 lakh will be provided by the government, leaving beneficiaries responsible for ₹6 lakh.

The government will also cover the complete cost of the land on which these houses will be built. In the initial phase of this endeavour, plans are being finalised to construct and allocate 7,680 flats distributed across 17 different constituencies. These include urban centres such as Rajendranagar, Maheshwaram, and Jubilee Hills, among others.

Officials have been directed to expedite the process of identifying suitable government land within these specific constituencies. This initiative underscores the commitment of the government to facilitate housing for the economically weaker sections of society, thereby improving their living conditions and access to opportunities.

Key Officials in the Review Meeting

The review meeting regarding the Indiramma housing colonies was attended by several senior officials, including Ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Ponnam Prabhakar. Significant contributors also included R&B Special Chief Secretary Vikas Raj and DGP CV Anand, along with CM’s Principal Secretaries N. Sridhar and V. Seshadri.

Other participants included Revenue Secretary Lokesh Kumar, HMDA Commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmad, Housing Special Secretary VP Gautham, and Hyderabad District Collector Priyanka Ala. The diverse representation at the meeting illustrates a cohesive approach by the state government to address the housing needs of lower-income communities in urban areas.

This concerted effort aims to not only provide shelter but also bolster economic resilience by ensuring that housing is accessible for those seeking employment within the urban centre. The Chief Minister’s proactive measures signify a significant step towards achieving inclusive urban development in Telangana.
