PM Modi Inaugurates Pune Metro’s Pink Line and Launches Projects Worth Rs 21,800 Crore

The CSR Journal Magazine

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Pune Metro’s Pink Line and laid the foundation stone for various projects worth approximately Rs 21,800 crore on Tuesday through video conferencing. The event also featured participation from Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The Pink Line, officially known as Pune Metro Line 3, was constructed at an investment exceeding Rs 8,300 crore.

This project is viewed as a significant advancement in enhancing Pune’s urban mobility infrastructure, focusing on technological innovations and modern transportation solutions. The Pink Line spans around 23 kilometres, connecting Maan to the District Court Metro station. This corridor is expected to facilitate Metro connectivity between the Hinjewadi IT hub and Shivajinagar, thereby improving access to one of Pune’s primary employment centres.

The new line aims to support the daily commute of thousands of IT professionals and other commuters. By integrating with the existing metro network, it will provide seamless connectivity across various regions of Pune. The initiative is designed to reduce reliance on private vehicles, alleviate traffic congestion, and lower vehicular emissions, while enhancing access to key commercial and residential areas.

Foundation Stone for Phase-II of Pune Metro

In addition to the Pink Line, Prime Minister Modi also laid the foundation stone for Phase-II of the Pune Metro, which is projected to be developed at an estimated cost of around Rs 13,500 crore. This phase includes Pune Metro Lines 2A, 2B, 4, and 4A, which will significantly expand the city’s metro network and improve connectivity across vital residential, commercial, and IT hubs.

Phase-II will see Lines 2A and 2B covering a total length of approximately 12.75 kilometres. Line 2A will connect Vanaz to Chandani Chowk, while Line 2B will link Ramwadi to Vitthalwadi, thereby extending the existing east-west Metro network. Furthermore, Line 4 will span around 25.52 kilometres, connecting Kharadi to Khadakwasla, and Line 4A will cover 6.12 kilometres, linking Nal Stop to Manik Baug.

The newly proposed Metro corridors are set to connect several significant locations, including Kharadi, Magarpatta, Hadapsar, Swargate, Manik Baug, Nanded City, Pune Cantonment, and Warje. The eastern extension from Ramwadi to Vitthalwadi is expected to enhance connectivity to rapidly developing residential, commercial, and IT hubs in Kharadi and Wagholi.

Integration with Existing Transport Systems

The new Metro corridors will also feature integration with intercity bus services and the existing Pune Metro network. Interchange facilities will be established at key locations such as Swargate, Nal Stop, and Kharadi Bypass, facilitating seamless connectivity across different parts of the city. This comprehensive approach aims to create an efficient public transport system that meets the growing demands of Pune’s urban population.

Overall, the inauguration of the Pink Line and the foundation stone laying for Phase-II mark a pivotal moment in Pune’s transport infrastructure development. The initiatives are expected to bolster the city’s economic growth and improve the quality of life for its residents by providing modern and efficient transportation options.

As Pune continues to expand, these projects are anticipated to play a crucial role in shaping the future of urban mobility in the region, making it easier for citizens to navigate their daily commutes while contributing to a more sustainable environment.
