Tejashwi Yadav Supports Student Protests in Bihar for Examination Reform

The CSR Journal Magazine

Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly and a member of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has voiced his support for ongoing student protests in Bihar. He noted a significant sense of anger and frustration among students concerning examination paper leaks and employment opportunities. Yadav made his remarks while addressing the Bihar Lok March protest held in Patna on August 22, 2026.

The protest was organised by the Bihar PhD Scholars Association in collaboration with the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI). The demonstration commenced at Veer Kunwar Singh Park, located near R Block, where a large number of students congregated to voice their concerns. Yadav’s comments highlight the urgency of addressing these issues, which have led to widespread discontent among the youth community.

Calls for Government Accountability and Transparency

During his address, Yadav emphasised the need for the government to take immediate action on students’ demands, which he described as legitimate and essential for their future. He reiterated the call for an end to paper leaks, timely examination schedules, and improved employment opportunities. Yadav stated that achieving a transparent examination process free of irregularities is paramount in restoring students’ faith in the educational system.

He expressed concern regarding the government’s alleged neglect of the students, stating that effective dialogue could potentially resolve the ongoing issues. Yadav pointed out that a failure to engage with student protests reflects a lack of accountability on the part of the administration. His remarks underscore the critical nature of communication in addressing educational grievances.

Additionally, Yadav attributed the decline of Bihar’s education system to the policies enacted by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), asserting that the current administration has mismanaged educational resources. He characterised the financial state of the government as precarious, suggesting that reliance on borrowed funds further complicates the situation.

Ongoing Student Agitation and Responses

The student agitation has now entered its nineteenth day, with demonstrators persistently advocating for various demands, including the reversal of recently proposed recruitment rules for assistant professors. Heavy police presence was noted at the R Block Golamber as protests intensified. Participants rallied together, chanting slogans like “long live student unity” and opposing the Chief Minister, Samrat Choudhary.

Director Roshan Anand of Gyan Bindu extended his support by encouraging students to unite and maintain a peaceful protest. He urged the protesters to stay organised while highlighting the importance of addressing the irregularities noted in the 70th Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exams. His statements reaffirmed the need for a cohesive approach toward achieving their objectives while ensuring safety and order during the demonstrations.

Congress leader Sushil Kumar expressed discontent with the government’s handling of the situation, accusing it of displaying double standards. He remarked that while the government claims to care for students’ futures, it has remained indifferent to the ongoing protests. Kumar assured the protesters of extended support and noted their determination to continue the agitation until their demands are adequately addressed, emphasising the importance of perseverance in the face of adversity.
