The CSR Journal Magazine

A tea stall owner tragically lost his life after setting himself on fire inside the Bheemgal Police Station in Nizamabad district, Telangana. The incident occurred on Monday, and the victim, a 55-year-old man, succumbed to his injuries the following day in a private hospital. Authorities confirmed that the man had been facing distress due to alleged threats from two local reporters.

Background of the Incident

Police revealed that the deceased had a history of conflict involving minor legal issues. He reportedly faced prosecution for keeping his tea stall open beyond the permitted hours. This matter had involved a sub-inspector who instructed him to settle a fine in court. The police commissioner, P Sai Chaitanya, stated the police acted appropriately and that there was no wrongdoing on their part concerning the situation.

Witnesses indicated that the individual entered the police station carrying a petrol bottle and a matchbox. After pouring the petrol over himself, he ignited the flames, prompting immediate action from onlookers and police personnel, who extinguished the fire and transported him to the hospital. According to medical evaluations, he sustained burns covering over 50 per cent of his body.

Additional details have surfaced regarding the threats he allegedly received from the two reporters. It is claimed they were dispatched by the owner of a grocery shop after the tea stall owner ceased purchasing cigarettes and other products from that establishment. This sequence of events appears to have contributed to his distressed state of mind.

Medical Condition and Aftermath

Upon being admitted to the private hospital, the severity of the tea stall owner’s condition was understood to be critical. Unfortunately, medical staff were unable to save him, and he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday. Following his death, police shifted his body to a government hospital to facilitate a post-mortem examination.

The authorities have since opened an inquiry into the incident, which has drawn attention due to its tragic nature and the complexities surrounding the individual’s circumstances. The case serves as a stark reminder of the serious implications of mental health issues and community pressures that individuals may face.

Investigation is ongoing, and officials are expected to evaluate the roles of the individuals involved, including the local reporters and the grocery shop owner, as further information is collected. Commissioner Sai Chaitanya affirmed that the police department will fully cooperate in any investigations that arise from this event.
