Tamil Nadu Launches ‘Thai Maman Thanga Mothiram’ Scheme in Madurai

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Tamil Nadu government is set to implement the ‘Thai Maman Thanga Mothiram’ plan, which aims to distribute one-gram gold rings to eligible newborns. The launch is scheduled to take place in Madurai on Monday, September 30, 2026. This initiative is designed to enhance maternal and child welfare by providing benefits specifically to newborns born in public hospitals and primary health centres across the state.

Eligible families will receive one gold ring for each qualifying child, with the intention of supporting those in need. The scheme highlights the importance placed on maternal and child health initiatives by promoting a sense of well-being among families during their crucial early stages of life.

In order to participate in the programme, families must have an e-KYC-verified Aadhaar card along with another valid form of identity or residency documentation. This requirement is set to ensure that the benefits reach the intended recipients effectively.

Distribution Logistics

The district administration has made several arrangements for an orderly distribution of the gold rings to avoid congestion. Each day, 25 beneficiaries will be processed in the morning and another 25 in the afternoon at designated distribution centres. This staggered approach aims to manage the flow of visitors and maintain a structured environment for the event.

Beneficiaries will receive notifications regarding their scheduled date and time for collection, through invitations handed out by Village Health Nurses. It is crucial that families attend the distribution at the time specified in their invitation to ensure smooth operations.

For children born after the designated launch date, the gold rings will be distributed directly at the respective government hospitals where the births occur. This provision aims to facilitate accessibility for families who might have children after the launch of the initiative.

Chief Minister’s Agenda in Madurai

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is anticipated to arrive at Madurai Airport from Chennai at 11 AM on the day of the launch. Following his arrival, he will travel by road to Government Rajaji Hospital to engage in the official programme associated with the initiative.

After participating in the distribution event, the Chief Minister is scheduled to visit Gandhi Museum around 12:50 PM. This visit reflects the government’s commitment to cultural heritage alongside their efforts in social welfare.

Following the museum visit, the Chief Minister will make his way to the Circuit House at approximately 1:30 PM. Later in the day, he is expected to visit the Arulmigu Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple for a darshan, scheduled for around 3:45 PM.

Concluding his visit, the Chief Minister will depart for Madurai Airport around 4:40 PM, with plans to return to Chennai at approximately 5:15 PM via a special flight. This series of engagements showcases the government’s focus on both community welfare and cultural appreciation during the visit to Madurai.
