Tamil Nadu Elections 2026: AIADMK Reveals Seat-Sharing Arrangement for NDA Allies

The CSR Journal Magazine

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has published a comprehensive list detailing the constituency-wise seat-sharing formula for its allies within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu for the upcoming Assembly elections on April 23, 2026. This announcement marks the culmination of seat-sharing discussions with seven partner parties, allocating a total of 65 seats among them, while the AIADMK will contest the remaining 169 seats independently.

Seat Allocation Breakdown

In its official release from Chennai, the AIADMK confirmed the seat distribution for each alliance partner. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been assigned 27 constituencies, while the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) will compete in 18, and the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) in 11. Additionally, the Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) has received 5 seats, the Indhiya Jananayaka Katchi (IJK) 2, the Tamilaga Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) 1, and the Puratchi Bharatham 1, confirming the strategic alliance’s framework ahead of the state elections.

Details of Constituencies Assigned

The AIADMK specified that the BJP’s allocation encompasses a variety of geographical regions, including urban areas as well as delta and southern districts. Key constituencies for the BJP include Mylapore, Aavadi, and Thiruvannamalai among others. The PMK’s 18-seat allocation covers regions such as Dharmapuri and Ambattur, reflecting its influence in northern and western regions of the state. The AMMK’s designated seats notably include Mannargudi and Karaikudi, while the TMC has been allotted seats in areas such as Ottanchatram and Kumbakonam. The TMMK and Puratchi Bharatham have been assigned Rajapalayam and Keezhvaithinankuppam respectively.

Strategic Moves Before the Elections

The release of the seat-sharing agreement is regarded as crucial for the AIADMK-led NDA, as it provides a defined electoral strategy in preparation for an anticipated competitive race against the current ruling DMK alliance. This announcement follows closely after AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami presented the party’s election manifesto, indicating a shift from building alliances to initiating active campaigning.

AIADMK’s Election Promises

The election manifesto released by Palaniswami includes a total of 297 commitments, heavily focusing on welfare measures. Notable proposals include a monthly financial assistance program of Rs 2,000 to be provided to female heads of households under the proposed ‘Kula Vilakku Scheme.’ The party also vowed to allocate a one-time assistance of Rs 10,000 for each family, aimed at mitigating the financial strains caused by inflation and increased taxes under the DMK government.

Upcoming Polling and Counting Dates

Voting for the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election is scheduled for a single phase on April 23, 2026, with the counting of votes set to occur on May 4. As the political landscape takes shape, the focus on alliances and electoral strategies will play a significant role in determining the outcomes of this high-stakes election.
