MK Stalin, the president of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), has asserted that “history can never be changed” in response to recent accusations made by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay. In a video message posted on X, Stalin outlined the significance of the DMK’s past struggles, particularly during the Emergency period in India, when he faced arrest and alleged mistreatment.

Stalin referred to the political atmosphere of that time, stating, “Thambi Vijay, what you said is true. It is not a lie,” and recounted events from 31st January 1976, when the DMK government was dismissed by the Union Government. He mentioned gatherings organised by his father, former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, where the MISA Act was vehemently opposed.

Recalling his own arrest, Stalin noted that police arrived at the Gopalapuram residence immediately after the government was dismissed. He mentioned he was not home at the time but would later return to face arrest under the MISA Act, claiming he was subjected to severe physical and mental abuse while in custody.

Stalin Highlights Allegations Of Police Brutality

During his account, Stalin described the inhumane conditions in prison, claiming he and other inmates were confined in a small room intended for leprosy patients. He stated that police officers allegedly resorted to physical violence, including beatings with lathis and kicks with boots. He also recalled tragic incidents, such as the death of DMK leader Chitti Babu, which he attributed to police brutality.

Stalin expressed pride in being part of the DMK’s historical legacy, stating that attempts to diminish his character would be futile, as “history can never be changed. It will remain as it is forever.” In addition, he dismissed allegations from Vijay regarding the Sarkaria Commission and corruption under Karunanidhi’s leadership. He argued that if such claims had merit, previous governments would have already acted.

Furthermore, Stalin accused the ruling government of using the Enforcement Directorate as a tool for political vendetta, asserting that such tactics should not be part of the responsibilities of a Chief Minister. He urged Vijay to focus on governance as opposed to unfounded political controversies.

Stalin Criticises Government Performance

In his criticisms, Stalin also addressed various issues within the government’s administration. He highlighted failures in maintaining law and order, the delays in the Parandur airport project, and the execution of farmers’ loan waivers. His comments included strong assertions about the government’s inability to manage its responsibilities effectively.

Stalin remarked that the current administration resembles a poorly scripted production, suggesting that the government is engaging in distractions through social media posts to obscure its inefficiencies. He insisted that the DMK would continue its advocacy for the rights and welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu, regardless of its status in power.

He stated, “Losing power, the DMK has never been considered a failure,” emphasising that their commitment to public service remains steadfast. Citing the longstanding dedication to fight for the people’s rights, he reiterated the party’s resolve to continue its legacy, underscoring, “This is the history of our DMK. That history will never change. And it should not change.” His statements were made following Vijay’s allegations presented in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on 7th September regarding corruption linked to the DMK and its leaders.
