Tamil Nadu Authorities Confiscate Over 200 Unauthorized Gas Cylinders in Tiruppur

The CSR Journal Magazine

The District Supply Department in Tiruppur has seized over 200 commercial and domestic gas cylinders stored without the necessary permissions. This action took place on Thursday in Thai Mookambigai Nagar, situated near Chamundipuram. The department acted upon a tip-off regarding the improper storage of these cylinders.

Investigation Led by Officials

District Supply Officer and Consumer Protection Officer Saravanan, along with officers from the Civil Supplies department, including Ragavi and Inspector Rajasekhar, promptly arrived at the location to investigate. Their efforts confirmed that more than 200 cylinders were indeed stored for commercial sale without authorization. Further inquiries revealed that these cylinders belonged to Vinayaka Gas Agencies, and the authorities are now extending their investigation to the agency’s owner, identified as Mohan.

Related Criminal Activities in Delhi

In a separate incident on the same day, Delhi Police’s Crime Branch dismantled an illegal LPG distribution operation in Sangam Vihar, South Delhi. The authorities arrested four individuals involved in this scheme and confiscated 183 gas cylinders during the operation. This action was prompted by reports of suspicious activities related to gas storage and distribution in the area.

Details of the Delhi Operation

The arrested individuals—Sher Singh, Suraj Parihar, Raghu Raj Singh, and Jitender Sharma—were identified as delivery personnel affiliated with an authorized gas agency. It was discovered that they engaged in illegal storage and refilling practices disguised as legitimate distribution efforts. Investigations unveiled that after acquiring cylinders from the official agency, these individuals failed to deliver them to customers and instead stored them in rented facilities.

Methods of Illegal Distribution

Within these rented premises, the accused extracted 1-2 kilograms of gas from filled cylinders, transferring the gas into empty ones using makeshift equipment. The illegally refilled cylinders were subsequently sold at elevated prices in the open market. While executing the raids, law enforcement recovered various tools utilized in this illicit operation, including iron pipes, electronic scales, and refilling equipment, revealing the extent of the organized nature of their activities.

Legal Action and Regulatory Assurance

A case has been filed against the accused under the Essential Commodities Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. In light of these incidents, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has released a statement affirming that India’s petroleum and LPG supply remains secure and adequately managed. They reassured the public that all retail fuel outlets across the country are sufficiently stocked, with no shortages of petrol, diesel, or LPG reported.
